Since its almost Friday and quizzes seem to be in vogue at the moment... Easy one to start with, "Far beyond the pale horizon, some place near the desert strand" First correct answer (as I judge it) takes the judges chair and picks the next one!

    Apathy Rules - I suppose...

Its not the things you fear that come to get you but all the things that you don't expect

Reads like it should be from "Hotel California" - Eagles. I'm not very good at lyrics, I sing my own :)

I still remember having to write your own code in FORTRAN rather than be a cut and paste merchant being pampered by colour coded Intellisense - ahh proper programming - those were the days :)

That song, as well as a few other from that album, is about getting caught up in chasing the American Dream and excess in America, California in particular I would imagine.

LOL...no I suppose not. It's fun to check out some sites like www.songfacts.com or www.songmeanings.net to see how people interpret different lyrics. I'm doing well, thanks! I took a wrong turn on the internet one day somewhere near reddit and it led down some dark passages. I thankfully found my way back to CP, though. I kind of missed this place. It's hard to find reasonable conversation. :) How are things in Sweden?

I'm doing well, thanks! I took a wrong turn on the internet one day somewhere near reddit and it led down some dark passages. I thankfully found my way back to CP, though. I kind of missed this place. It's hard to find reasonable conversation. :) How are things in Sweden?

Don't expect any reason in the Soapbox. It's infested with something called Ilion, and it's unbearable. I hardly ever go there any longer. It went so far that I installed a Grease Monkey script that filters out the unbearable noise. Damn shame really, because that forum used to be a place where you could sharpen your reasoning skills.

Funny you should ask! I moved to Oslo, Norway, in the beginning of March, and now I'm heading back home to Sweden. It's not like I didn't like it here - on the contrary - Norwegians are likely to be one of the nicest people in the world. Excellent coworkers, and excellent neighbors. Heck, even the homeless/drug addicts are nice here. :~ I went to visit my mother on my vacation, only to witness senility. It looks like it could be the beginning of Alzheimer's. :( Now I just have to, with the help of my brother, convince her to go to the doctor have a diagnosis. Unfortunately she's so stubborn that I'm actually contemplating a pseudo-kidnapping and take her to the doctor's office. If it's not Alzheimer's, it might be treatable in some simple way - maybe she's just lacking some nutrient. If it is Alzheimer's, there are medicines that slows down the break down process. Either way it's a win-win. Got any good tips for convincing mothers?

I think I saw Ilion posts the other day. I'll remember to steer clear. Sorry to hear about your mother. Hopefully there is a simple fix. I'm not sure how to convince mothers to seek help. We've been trying to get my mother to see a doctor about her hearing. She grudgingly admits that she should go, but never actually makes an appointment. I don't have much leverage in the argument either, because I have a heart murmur and keep putting off my visit to the cardiologist. Maybe I can strike a deal with her. She gets her ears checked, and I my heart. Have you brought up your concerns to her yet?
