That happens when they have too much spare cash.

They hired me. Their IT department tried to deny me access. I spent a month arguing with support folks who told me SQL Server is server software and should not run on a personal notebook. I got access as a project finished, and there's no new one

Hey Chtistian, I thought you had retired a few years ago. I have also had contracts in the past where it took the manager some time to figure out what I was supposed to do. But as long as they paid me ...
Nah, I have no plans to retire. I love it too much. I also like having money The thing is, I'm bored and I don't see why they'd renew me without work.

Do you still get paid? If so, is it remote? If so, can I take your place? ;P

Lol. I get $1000 a day. I've worked remote almost exclusively since 2003.

1000 a day remote... that's better than winning the lottery.

Look, I know I won the lottery. I make good money doing what I love.

A friend of mine had the same issue. They hired him and it took about two months before they had him up and running. They literally told him he could work on some personal projects in the meantime :wtf: He wrote quite a few blogs during that time. When does your contract end? If it's within a few months, you could look for a new job and simply not be available when they want to renew your contract again.

If they are paying you, and you say they are, look around for problems. Every company has problems they need solved. Or, update skills? I went through a 18 month dry spell - paid but not much to do, no one cared, etc. Pretty depressing. Oh, exercise :)

I did a sadly shorter one, 7 months during COVID. The best time of my life. Cozying with the cat, reading 12 hours / day and playing all the time consuming open world RPGs I love while being paid. Pure bliss.

One of those places where they think locking down developer machines is a good idea? What about the rest of the development staff? Is there any? And they couldn't/wouldn't explain to support they didn't know what they were talking about?

So they pay you and you don't work.... So get a contract with another company. Get paid and do work for them. Bank both the checks.
I've actually let my contacts cross over by a week in the past but I wouldn't do this long term

This is a company that's pretty rigid. Yes, I've taken the time to be up to date on sitecore. Yes it's depressing

I am jealous. We had the "Kurzarbeitergeld" (German money for people working in things stopped by corona) for some months at work. A big % of the people who were sent home were complaining A LOT they wanted to work. I offered me voluntarily to accept one of those, they wouldn't allow me and had to work through (only normal holidays for the whole corona time)
M.D.V. ;) If something has a solution... Why do we have to worry about?. If it has no solution... For what reason do we have to worry about? Help me to understand what I'm saying, and I'll explain it better to you Rating helpful answers is nice, but saying thanks can be even nicer.
