always say "please" and "thank you" to ChatGPT for the same reason one should always be polite to the janitor id est some day he or she may be your boss .

All jokes aside, its good practice for how you treat all of your other co-workers. Doesn't really cost you anything but a few keystrokes and you're ready to talk to the next person.

Actually everyone. I worked in restaurants when I was young. Even high class ones. What you might have seen happen in movies when restaurant workers are mistreated is not a fantasy. And when I was responsible for a automobile accident and was very respectable to the responding office I ended up with a much less severe final offense as applied by the DA.

There used to be saying : be nice to people coming down when you go upstairs... you never know whom you will meet coming down Can anybody tell, without insults, from which culture it came from ? and I would add " skip eyeballing your iphone in either case "

I prefer the variation my father told me...

I don't know where that comes from, but I would have thought it would be the other way round. After all if you are coming down the stairs and meet someone who wants to kick you coming up, they are at a disadvantage.

So did I (sommer resort), and the worst customers were the wannabe rich (saving the whole year to spend one month there), instead of the really rich (coming the weekends during the whole year, not only in summer). They were extreme polite and respectful with me.

Some time back we took the grandson (about 10yo) to a fancy restaurant where he dropped a fork, when told to pick it up he said "oh the servant will pick it up", immediate smack up side the head.
