I find ads on web pages (and elsewhere) intrusive and offensive. Thus I run an ad blocker and never have to see the crap. :) Google's way of advertising is to have a "sponsored link" at the top of the list of hits, which is easily ignored. In fact, I did a Google search not 5 minutes ago, and I reflexively started reading at the second hit, skipping right over the advertiser link. At least that way is better than what some other site was doing. (I saw this a long time ago, so I forget which site it was.) You'd have a list of hits about, say cats, and the first 5 would be relevant, and the 6th "hit" would be "Go to SomeBookStore.com". IOW, total crap thrown in the middle of the search results

So what's the future of web advertising? -
Humor: First the iMac, now...... and now this: iBrator. A bit risque; might not be work-safe

GIF LicensingI'd love to see GIFs die off, but advertisers won't drop it until MNG is supported. Someone suggested SWF - is that Flash? Ugh, no thanks, I don't need ActiveX/plugins running on every single page to make things even slower. As an aside, there used to be a parody/complaint site Burn All GIFs, but it seems to be down now.

Yet Another Parody Web SiteD'oh, sorry 'bout that. I'll post a "not work-safe" disclaimer in the future

Yet Another Parody Web SiteThat neat MSLinux site reminded me of this site, aimed at those in LD relationships: FuFme

Can anyone pick the faces?Heh, well I can say I definitely know one face (guess who, Chris). ;) Unfortunately, if the guy hasn't been on the cover of a Wrox book, I wouldn't have a clue who he was. :

How do companies make money? Two words: Banner Ads. And if you're like me and find web ads offensive, I have two more words: Ad Blocker. :)

Screen phonesI've seen pictures of cell phones that run PalmOS. They have the screen and the standard Palm buttons 'n everything. I think Qualcomm has such a phone, or will have one coming out

US Big Brother, Part DeuxI liked George initially because he was enjoying the heck out of himself. He could act all childish and not worry about it. :) However lately, he's gotten paranoid and seems to be going off the deep end. He doesn't seem to realize that he's singling himself out for votes by carrying on his antics. He actually has no reason to be paranoid, since the even distribution of nominations last time meant that everyone was getting along. It's not like when Will and Jordan ticked off the house and got 6 votes. BTW, if anyone missed the Early Show interviews, I have MP3s of Karen's interview and Brit's interview. Both files are 1.3 MB

US Big Brother, Part Deux*sigh* Well, ever since Brit got the axe on Wednesday, I've totally lost interest. Every time I turn on the web feeds, it's just the labrats (heh) sitting around talking. But they seem like they're "all talked out" so it really ain't that interesting. :( At least we'll get to see Brit on the Early Show tomorrow morning
-
The US Big BrotherHeh, no. :( I had just switched feeds to one showing the girls' room, and right as the feed came up, it showed her, then quickly changed to a different room. So she was on the screen for maybe 2 seconds tops

The US Big BrotherI once caught a shot on the web feeds of Jordan in the bedroom when she was changing. She only had on a thong. Huh huh huh, cool, huh huh huh. :

The US Big BrotherSo... 6 people marked this week. Who do you want to vote out? I adore Brit (although she has major relationship issues from her past). I'd say I want Eddie out of there; he's so loud, annoying, and unfunny. The only reason for him to stay (in terms of keeping the show entertaining) would be to hook up with Jamie, but he'll never do that

Fox's "turn back the clock" baseball coverageUGH!! This TV coverage is ugly! :( Fox is broadcasting their baseball games in the same style as in the past, to celebrate some anniversary or something. In inning 1, it was 1930-something. That means one camera high behind home plate, bad black & white picture, bad sound, etc. I'm all for nostalgia (I love MAME and 80's rock music) but bad-looking and unentertaining nostalgia is a waste of time.

Mini Poll: What about Version Control? At Symantec in Santa Monica, we used the DOS PVCS (you read that right) up until about mid-1998. It had been in use for longer than I'd worked there, so I guess no one wanted to change. And yes, it was a PITA to work with. We finally got switched over to Perforce, and it made everything run so much more smoothly. Perforce was originally a *nix program, and I don't think they spent much time designing their Win32 client's UI, but once you stopped swearing at the UI and figured out how to do stuff, it was pretty good
