The problem is that you're dealing with Tomaž instead of the topic. Which is behaviour that is quite typical for the Karl-peterchen-Carson gang. Remember - the topic is if the "social truth" is really apropriate material for kids who don't have defense mechanisms against these manipulations?

Actually this problem is similar to religion in school. Socialism or extreme leftism is sort of secular religion, after all. We should have laws about the separation of state and leftist ideology.

Actually, I think Tomaž is very much the topic. We are given links to German-language web-sites and are supposed to accept that the selected excerpts offered in translation give a balanced indication of the content of those sites. I view that with a high level of scepticism. I might also remark that if we could see inside classrooms in Texas, the presentations we would observe concerning the role of the US in the world probably wouldn't be entirely unbiased. Germany is not commieland and there are some very decent people there. For example, Paul Kirchof. Regardless of the fact that you don't like that - I do differentiate between Germans and kraut-socis. The latter are the enemy.

And, consequently, you should teach children this "fact" so that they "understand" the world "correctly"?

I am not sure what "fact" you are referring to. I am against indoctrination (not many would claim otherwise of themselves), but in determining whether indoctrination is taking place, there is a subjective element in determining what is fact, near-fact, widely believed fact, controversial fact, dubious fact, ratbag belief...and I think your subjective judgements on this issue are not ones that I would generally accept. Hence I would not generally accept your claims as to who are the chief offenders in the indoctrination stakes. Thankful? I did not say that. It’s entirely up to you, some people are, and some are not. It depends on your views. What I was saying is that you should know the history and learn from it, that’s all.

I was a bit sneaky - I had two meanings in mind: (a) I am thankful that I wasn't there, and I am reminded to be thankful again and again for the Marshal Plan.

It was your second meaning that I was answering. I did not mean to remind you to be thankful; I only want everyone not to repeat the same mistakes that have been done in our past history and we’ll have many fewer problems in our future.

Children are not going to form their views in a vacuum. They will draw on the opinions that are presented to them. The appropriate attitude to children is to let them be aware of the existence of a variety of opinion, tell them what you think is correct, and let them feel that it is OK to disagree with you. I don't know what age the children are that these websites address. I would agree that it is probably not appropriate to be getting too heavily into questions of the merits of the US at an early age, just as issues of religion cannot be properly addressed by young children. Actually this problem is similar to religion in school. Socialism or extreme leftism is sort of secular religion, after all. We should have laws about the separation of state and leftist ideology.

So what you're saying is that we should have separation of state and everybody who doesn't think like you. Right.

He regulary links to it, but until now he gave away his sources. It's not that he copies of it (I think the cursive is indicator enough that he's quoting), but this David guy has a tendency to give his translations.. well, a tendency. They're actually teaching this crap to their kids? ------- sig starts "I've heard some drivers saying, 'We're going too fast here...'. If you're not here to race, go the hell home - don't come here and grumble about going too fast. Why don't you tie a kerosene rag around your ankles so the ants won't climb up and eat your candy ass..." - Dale Earnhardt "...the staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - Jason Jystad, 10/26/2001

This page is published by a company not by the goverment and this page is not related to the german school system. So you can't say that it is used to teach children. In a quick view over this page i can't see how it is sponsored by a state goverment or someting else.

What's Paul have to be paranoid about? Or did you mean McCarthy - my hero? At least their paranoia is not being funded and promulgated by the state in this case. Its all a question of who's paranoia is the most valid. Well, there are those rumors about his actually being dead. "I buried Paul." BW
