Cheney might have offed the guy!

I don't think that's happened since Andrew Jackson! http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060214/ap_on_go_pr_wh/cheney_whittington_8;_ylt=ApP0tlOXyNdRKYQ0wo65wCtqP0AC;_ylu=X3oDMTBiMW04NW9mBHNlYwMlJVRPUCUl[^]

I would have loved to see the VP up on involuntary manslaughter charges. Of course that would have meant that the other guy would have died, but what the heck, he was a lawyer, right? Marc Pensieve

http://thinkprogress.org/2006/02/13/sheriff-barred-from-interviewing/ Following this accident the VP ducked local investigative authorities for almost 24 hours. I personally wonder if the VP had been drinking at the time of the shooting. If so, this shooting could constitute criminal negligence. Now granted this scenario may not be the case, however, I am unhappy that he was able to successfully put off a law enforcement investigation of the incident long enough that this possibility will never be able to be determined. No ordinary citizen would be afforded this luxury. VP or not, I do not like to see politicians above the law. I speak in a little known dialect of English called Josh. Is drinking while game shooting criminal negligence in the states, in my (limited) experience here in the UK people pretty much always drink while game shooting. (Not too much though) Are you gonna bark all, day little doggy. Or are you gonna bite. - Mr Blonde

It's only criminal negligence if you end up shooting the guy beside you rather than the game in front of you. (Oh, and they have to die as well.) -J
Think of a computer program. Somewhere, there is one key instruction, and everything else is just functions calling themselves, or brackets billowing out endlessly through an infinite address space. What happens when the brackets collapse? Where's the final 'end if'? Is any of this making sense? -Ford Prefect

Quite honestly, I don't know. There are many laws relating to drinking and driving, public drunkeness, drinking and operating heavy machinery / industrial equipment. I would not see it as unthinkable to have a local and/or federal law relating to the use of alcohol and operating firearms that could have applied had it been discovered he was under the influence. But none of this is really my point of concern. Lets not digress. I feel that using the secret service to turn away inquiring local investigative authorities was suspicious as well as clearly an abuse of power. That is all. Well said Josh. Alcohol would explain the accidental shooting... but we'll probably never learn what really happened. :sigh: Alvaro

If that is criminal negligence they are going to have to arrest about half the male population of Texas. "You get that which you tolerate"
