DXF file / AutoCAD object FAQ?

Odd question, but does anyone know of a good AutoCAD or DXF tutorial for non-AutoCAD users? I'm looking to import a limited subset of entities from a DXF file into a graphics app I'm working on, but I've never used AutoCAD before, so really have no idea of how to use some of the information stored can be applied. I've read through parts of the DXF specification, but like all specifications it gets so detailed that if you don't have a higher level view of it, the information doesn't really do much. I've also been doing quite a bit of google searches, but every FAQ or tutorial I've found relates directly to the use of AutoCAD, which isn't helping much, since I don't have it or really want to learn to use it. ----- In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king.
