Iraq: A Commie Socialist Paradise?
-
It is hard to imagine, but our soldiers fought and died so that the Socialist Republic of Iraq could be formed. Oddly enough, it's so-called conservatives who most strongly support Bush's war. Instead of calling it the war on terrorism, it should be called the war for socialism. Consider the following articles from the new Iraqi constitution. They could be part of the Communist Manifesto. Article 29: First: B. The State guarantees the protection of motherhood, childhood and old age and shall care for children and youth and provides them with the appropriate conditions to further their talents and abilities. Article 30: First: The state guarantees to the individual and the family — especially children and women — social and health security and the basic requirements for leading a free and dignified life. The state also ensures the above a suitable income and appropriate housing. Second: The State guarantees the social and health security to Iraqis in cases of old age, sickness, employment disability, homelessness, orphanage or unemployment, and shall work to protect them from ignorance, fear and poverty. The State shall provide them housing and special programs of care and rehabilitation. This will be organized by law. Article 31: First: Every citizen has the right to health care. The state takes care of public health and provides the means of prevention and treatment by building different types of hospitals and medical institutions. Second: Individuals and institutions may build hospitals or clinics or places for treatment with the supervision of the state and this shall be regulated by law. Article 32: The State cares for the handicapped and those with special needs and ensures their rehabilitation in order to reintegrate them into society. This shall be regulated by law.

The rights of women and the aged are of interest only to communists ? My understanding is that those rights need to be enshrined especially in a country where the more conservative forces would regard a woman to have the rights of any other house hold pet. Article 31 doesn't sound far removed from what happens in Australia. Is Australia a communist country ? What's your proposal for how the state should treat the handicapped ? me think that Ed does'nt want the government to be "directly" responsible for people, but that people be responsisble for them ( familly, hospices, ... )

Based on past posts, I suspect Ed is just trying to wind up conservatives. There is a certain irony in the fact that Iraq has a Constitution that in some regards is well to the left of Republican thinking. This strongly reminds me some of the documents of European Union as well as some constitutions of European countries. No surprise! "...government is not the solution to our problem. Government is the problem." -Ronald Reagan

Everything in that list is reflected in UK law/policy. It's hardly communist, it's the Welfare State.

Absolutely not! A convention of Iraqis wrote it.

As long as it's of the people, by the people and for the people, it doesn't really matter what they choose for themselves...as long as the power to overturn it is also held with the people.

I can't beleive there are people (or at least one person) retarded enough to consider the protection of old people, women and children, and the right to decent health care to be bad things! I don't really see how it leads to (or comes from) communism. It is just a statement that the state should be there to help people living correctly. Maybe it's not the case in your country, Ed, and you're just jealous?

That's exactly what he is doing. That's why I ignore him. The real irony is that all of the lefties think we went in to take the oil and set up some kind of puppet government, and what really happened is that the Iraqis chose this - and the evil BusHitler let them.
