wat is global.asa use for?

i'm not really sure wat is the global.asa use for? i have read some article but... still not sure with it... is it use for databse stuff?? can i use it to show the templete of my site such as header and footer?:confused:

Its is such a file which is accessible from all pages in that directory.Suppose you want to add Session_on_start event .Then If you write it in Global.asa file then its accessible from all pages and all pages can change the value of variable used in global.asa file.

how to use this kind of file??? put wat coding on each of my content page?? in the global.asa can i link all my page to have open the header and footer?? header.asp, footer.asp
