Italy are only there because they cheated against us. If the ref knew the rules we would most likely have won the shoot out and gone through to loose against Germany. France v Germany would be a much better WWII match up. Even Germany v Holland would have been good to watch. When the Dutch play the Germans the Dutch fans sing a song in German that traslates to something like "give us back our bicycles". Go France. Objects in mirror are closer than they appear

Maybe, but the score will be about 10,000:20 France when they surrender.

With people like you as compatriot, I better understand why Quebec wants its independence. Vive le Quebec Libre!

                1. I don't understand the reason for the ad-hominems. It was a pretty obvious joke, frankly, and I can't believe I was the first one to make it. 2) France != Quebec. It's a subtle but important point. As just one example, many Quebecois fought with distinction in WWII. I can make fun of France and it's military history without offending my compatriots. They understand the difference.

                1. On a more serious note, if the terms of separation included their own currency, infrastructure and assumption of their portion of the national debt, it's generally accepted that TROC (the rest of Canada) would happily bid them aideu. But they want to be separate AND to keep their lovely federal transfer payments. They want all the freedom of separation with the cost carried by Alberta and Ontario. Just plain silly. That's why we fight to stay together. It would be too expensive for everyone else. Sean

At least it would be entertaining. Hey, any game that doesn't end in a nil-nil tie is a good one for me... :) Sean

But can you make fun of Canada without offending them? Making fun of the US without offending your neighbours?

Then why did the federal government give the citizenship (and the right to vote) to many non-francophone immigrants just before the second referendum and scare them by telling they would loose this citizenship if Quebec was independent? Why did it have to fear?

Wow. I just... Wow. I'm going to have to leave this discussion now. You win. You're right; about everything. About how ad-hominem attacks against me are the same thing as jokes about France. About how "anglo-saxon arrogance" victimizes France and Quebec. About your knowledge of the internal politics of my country. I can't fight that combination of knowledge and logic. If anyone ever questions your debating skills, you should just point them at this thread. Sean

In France, we have what we call "belgian joke", where a belgian plays the role devoted to a blonde in other series. I hate that. I hate belgian, jews, african, american jokes. There are roots of stupid nationalism, of a kind of rampant racism and xenophobia. We are individuals, sometimes induhviduals, but we deserve to be consider like that, not be prejudged because of our country, our ethnic origin, our skin color.
