I misread that as lesbian women are the best and wondered "how insane" But now I wonder what is wrong with me for misreading that :(

Of course. And most husband's worth their salt should love them even more for nourishing their children :)

You're assuming they have children, or ever wish to do so.

That's the first time anybody has found one of my theories reasonable. The response I expected was: "First of all, not all men love breasts. Secondly, those that do love breasts don't necessarily prefer them to be large. All you know how to do is generalize."

Your misread? Just a moment let's look at the initial posting - uh, me too! I wonder how insane the others must be not to misread the posting ;)

Please don't get what I'm going to say next wrong - it's brilliant to see guys standing up for women the way you are. But (always a but right? :) ) it's so sad that the world works this way - by seeing breasts as primarily sexual, society is robbing future generations of the best start in life. Human babies should drink human milk (and don't assume I had an easy time establishing breastfeeding - it was hell for the first 3 months) and while there are many valid reasons why it may not work out for many mums and babies not wanting to offend a male dominated society should not be one of them. WHO, UNICEF, The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and many other respected organisations recommend breastfeeding for at least the first 2 years of life - yet if one looks into breastfeeding stats for Western countries the results are far off that which is sad for the health of the next generation. Can't remember when last I've posted in the soapbox :). [edit]There's an interesting graph at the bottom of this[^] page -- modified at 8:07 Thursday 27th July, 2006

Do you find matters improving in your part of the world in terms of breast feeding your child in public. After-all, why should a mother have to find what is an excuse for a "mother and baby room" just to feed baby, don't suppose all establishments provide such. I don't see adults eating their meals in lavatories, so should same rules apply for baby.

Let that be a lesson to you; women are so unpredictable  I didn't believe that, but as I'm married for the second time, have now accepted it as a truth; at least with our son, my wife is consistent. Why don't I get the same treatment? Consistency-wise, that is, both he and I are long past the breast-feeding age, and I don't have what Robert Heinlein referred to as an infantile bias; but I do like someone who can hold a proper conversation... maybe it's my age, I had my mid-life crisis early. At least I hope I did, or I'll never make 60!

The evolution of the human genome is too important to be left to chance.

Hi Richard, In South Africa things are very bad - bf'ing after about 3 months is seen as crazy, I only have one friend who didn't put her baby straight on the bottle (and at 13 months is still going strong :) ). In the UK things are a lot better than SA, but not perfect. Still, I'm glad Mikey was born in the UK not SA as I don't think I would have succeeded in SA due to a lack of support. It doesn't come naturally and can be very hard to establish. In Australia things are better still - while in the UK I met people online who had/were following the UNICEF/WHO guidelines, but here I've met many people IRL who are doing so/have done so. It really makes it so much easier. Before we moved here I really envied my SIL in Sweden as there bottle feeding is quite taboo - which again can be very sad for those mum's who have a medical reason (about 5% of women have a genuine reason why it's not possible) for not bf'ing.

Well said! Crazy to take those in our society with the most immature immune systems and say "eat your lunch in the toilet". Hopefully enlightenment will grow and our daughters won't have these problems when our grandchildren are born :).

Are you generalizing? The only holes in your theory is surely then women should have the same obsession? But now we're getting way off topic, and even the odd kid sister may accidentally walk into the Soapbox. Seriously though, why should being passionate about your kids health and future mean you stop being passionate about your husband?
