The BBC is, intentionally, liberal, politically correct, and guilt ridden for being middle class and from oxford and cambridge. The UK is also traditionally pro Arab, and fairly well disposed to Islam. However, in its way, the Beeb has a place, between more objective reporting, Observer, Guardian, etc, and plebs end of the market, ITV, the Sun, News of the World etc.

Truth is the subjection of reality to an individuals perception

The broadsheets are not objective.. I noticed you left the Telegraph out :) But they do have a clearly understood bias, you buy them partialy for the editorial line. This isn't the case with the BBC, where we are forced to pay for a news service that has a clear agenda that many do not support. That agenda has a perfectr right to be expressed, but not using my cash. Would you want to pay that arsehole Littlejohn's salary?

I lived in the North Yorkshire moors for about a month. The countyside was beautiful, if not a little windy and damp. Anyways, after two weeks, I was screaming for a "real" newspaper. I finally broke down and bought an international daily. I can't believe the proliferation of "rags" in the British news market! Imagine my sadness when I first suspected the BBC was headed in the "rag" direction. X|

No, but it does mean that we shouldn't have to pay for it. The use of unattributed local opinion as an excuse to express jounrnalistic opontion is a slight of hand used repeatedly by the BBC throughout the conflict - people say a hell of a lot of things. Hugh Edwards was particularly egregious with this. You would be pissed if the BBC sounded like Fox or the Washington post no?

Defense is one of the few things the state should do, as it cannot be provided in any other way. Journalism can be aptly provided by private agencies.

Of course not. If a handfull of people came up to you and offered that opinion you too would state it as 'people around here feel...' Same for all her comments. She probably has an agenda, and a distorted point of view, but again, that does not mean that that point of view is invalid. There is still truth in it.

Cool, I expect Daniel Pipes will be employed bt the BBC middle east department soon enough then, he has an agenda and a valid point of view.

Huge exaggeration of war damage[^], along with emoting support of Hizbollah. The woman is well known as an antisemite among journalists (her nickname being orla goebbels) and is married to a Palestinian, why the hell does the BBC let her anywhere near the middle east? I assume because she supports their general editorial line, along with providing sufficiently emotive fact free reports in the same vein as Fergal Keane.

news in general doesn't have the quality as it should have. Most articles are tampered with to make it sell. Informing the public with quality information seems to be set lower and lower on the list of priorities of the news agencies. :sigh:

According to a recent BBC survey, 75% of brits still think they are impartial, which is pretty damn crazy. They do a good job of being non partisan when it comes to political coverage, but that isn't neutrality. I seriously object to having a tax funded version of the guardian pretending it is a neutral news source. At least I don't directly cough up for Reuters.

Isn't that true of any article that quotes people? Whether the quote is from George Bush, Tony Bliar, Ehud Olmert or the man in the moon, "people" are going to spin their words in the fashion that best suits their agenda.

It's unattributed, quoting someone, naming them and not paraphrasing would be reasonable. It's the "people say" trick that is not objective.
