Muslims - A generic term used to refer to moderate followers of Islam and also extremist Islamic terrorists. We really need to have 2 different terms since the two categories are extremely unlike each other.

I wish I could give you ten 5's. (Of course, someone here has several accounts with which to vote... you'll probably get hit with 20 1's.)

yep - 2. both taxi drivers. one a Palestinian immigrant, the other a recent immigrant from Nigeria.

so were these 2. Both incounters were post 9-11. As a result, once I discovered they were Muslims I engaged them in conversations. The Palestinian was roughly my age and had been in the US for quite some time. That conversation was focused on the evil of Israel. The conversation with the Nigerian was more interesting. It was focused on his feeling and dedication to his family's success and well being. However, I have no idea what their demeanor would be if at Friday prayers their Imam told them to slit the throat of anyone wearing a Christian symbol.

Yeah, that's happened to me a few times - was sorta weird the first time :-)

You have it backwards. The "extremists" are the real followers of the Koran, and the peaceful muslims like Adnan Siddiqi are apostates.

Good question, although I'm pretty sure that if an Imam were to that, his ass would be swiftly carted off to jail (at least in this country). Alvaro

I met one peaceful american muslim. he was my undergraduate advisor and originally from iran. we used to get into some fun discussions. he once asked, 'are jews allowed to drink alcohol?' I explained how we have one holiday in which were are encouraged to get drunk. he said, 'oh we muslims get screwed on that.' other than him, i'm still wary of muslims. but then again, i make it obvious that i'm a jew so they probably resent me from the start.
