How do you recount eletronic votes? Do you run the counter program again to get again exactly the same results?

Absentee, and provisional ballots are still paper. The latter are issued if the electronics break down, or a voter's registration can't be confirmed. In the second case the votes aren't counted until the person's right to vote is confirmed.

I don't think anyone was that upset on Gore's first recount request. It was only when they wouldn't stop recounting that it became a problem.

      Thank God for disproportional force.

Gore requested a recount in 4 Florida counties, and it was not completed before the Supreme Court intervened. So what does 'wouldn't stop recounting ' mean?

There's nothing wrong with a recount when requested and executed within legal parameters and when reasonable. Gore didn't do that. He attempted to redefine what constituted a vote in order illegally give himself an advantage through the traditional means of liberal despotism...The American courts.

Ridiculous! As allowed by Florida law, Gore requested a recount in 4 counties. Some of the counties realized that they would not meet the deadline to certify the votes and sued to extend the deadline. The Bush campaign then filed a Federal lawsuit to prevent the deadline extension, and it all ended up in the Supreme court. So Gore did nothing illegal ( typical red BS ), but if you want to suggest improper motives look at the Bush campaign. He didn't care what the voters wanted - he just wanted to win. So he went to the courts to secure his election. Not illegal, but hardly democratic.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida_recount[^] Good lord, they recounted the damn things for weeks while Gore tried to come up with ever more complex formulas to get the count to work out in his favor. It was a farce. The only reason it wasn't 'finished' is becuase the dems wouldn't accept any of the results.

          Thank God for disproportional force.

The link provided deals with the recount performed by several newspapers after the fact, not the actual recount.

That's a nice story, but not true.

It never got finished because Bush got the Supreme court to intervene. Bush was afraid that he might lose, and would rather the courts, and not the voters, decide the election.

'wouldn't stop recounting' means pretty much what it says. Gore's recounts extended past almost all vote certification deadlines in violation of Florida state law. There were in fact multiple recounts, not just one. http://www.uselectionatlas.org/INFORMATION/ARTICLES/pe2000timeline.php[^]

It is time for losing Senator George Allen of Virginia to obey the will of the people. Rather than contest with endless recounts and court battles, he should concede gracefully and step aside in favor of the elected winner of the contest. Our nation does not need the turmoil that endless recounts and litigation would create, and in a democracy such as ours, those who do the right thing are amply rewarded in other ways. The people have spoken. This is an update and summary of comments made by George Bush, James Baker, etc., after the 2000 presidential election when Florida was contested by Al Gore.

He lost? I've been in meetings all day. Must have been close eh? I bet losing the support of the maccacs cost him the election. Bigots, you can't live withem, but you can avoid electing them. :-D

I guess 'means what it says' it not the same as 'means what actually happened'. Your timeline doesn't say anything about multiple recounts. Gore made one request for recounts in 4 specific counties as allowed by law. If there were external forces that delayed the recount it was the Bushies going to court to stop it. Gore did not cause or force any county to miss any deadline.

I'm sure you were the first on your local soapbox to ask The Dems and Al gore to concede the battle in 2000 instead of forcing the issue to the Supreme Court. I just love hypocrites! Why not spend your time trying to sell your vacuum cleaners.
