It staggers me, that in the last 8 years, the existance of the Medieval Warm Period, and the Little Ice Age, have been so effectively negated, and that so many people are prepared to believe it. Here are books, by scientists, from many fields, discussing what, to us in the 70's was a known fact. That the climate WAS warmer than today. Nowadays, kids will be taught that this wasnt the case, all because it doesnt fit in with the current politically correct view! What the hell are we playing at when we have to remake the past to fit present ideology?[^]

I think Mr. Maunder might have to make a dedicated "Global Warming" forum for you.

http://www.realclimate.org/index.php/archives/2004/12/werent-temperatures-warmer-during-the-medieval-warm-period-than-they-are-today/[^] "Claims that global average temperatures during Medieval times were warmer than present-day are based on a number of false premises that a) confuse past evidence of drought/precipitation with temperature evidence, b) fail to disinguish regional from global-scale temperature variations, and c) use the entire "20th century" to describe "modern" conditions , fail to differentiate between relatively cool early 20th century conditions and the anomalously warm late 20th century conditions."

Probably right but... So here is a quotation of a familiar passage for you to ponder.

"There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We can reduce the focus to a soft blur, or sharpen it to crystal clarity. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear.

And a helpful mantra to recite "It's all good..."

Strangely, the kids today are not taught that the world is flat either! Oh wait...maybe we have a better understanding of the world around us than we did in the past. Naaaw, its not like anything to do with the world's climate has received any amount of research since the 70s, so that can't be it.

Did you read the bit about the Little Ice Age between the Medieval Warm Period and todays warm period? Guess what Ice and Warm mean. Yep, getting warmer. But stil not as warm as it was between 1000 and 1400, and not as warm as around 0AD, and not as warm as the bronze age. The current warming trend started around 1750. Before the industrial revoloution and before mans productin of CO2.

Thirty years after they discovered the world was round, do you think people weren't still writing books about it? Some people still believe it today. he fact that the vast majority of evidence and current thinking is showing it, like your post child, not to be true suggests something to me...

I am aware of that website, it tows the IPCC line to the letter. There is plenty of other research that prooves the existance of the Medieval Warm Period as a global phenomenom. From the Pacific Ocean to the Andes. So why does the IPCC and RealClimate want to destroy the Medieval Warm Period? Tell me that. Why are they so keen to deny its existance? It happened a long time ago, and surely they are only interested in the future climate change? They want to destroy it because it breaks their climate models. the same models they are using to predict chaos in the future.

You're right, most of the books in your link were from within the last decade. Everything I've read on the medieval warming period, however, suggests that there was probably some temporary warming in various regions of the world, but that globally it is warmer now and the temperature is rising faster than at any time in at least the last two thousand years.

Everything you have read that tries to discredit it will have been produced since 1998, and by the same scientists that suport the Man=>CO2->Global Warming->Chaos thoery. There is plenty of other scientific research that has found that in many parts of the world it was warmer from 1000 to 1400. From the PAcicif Ocean, to the Andes, to Europe and Greenland.

Only with ground based measuement. Satellite based readings of temperature do not show the same rate of increase. However, it is true that since 1990 there has been an increase in the rate of warming. Many scientists put it down to the baning of dangerous gasses in aerosols. These gasses are known to be reflective of the suns energy, so have in fact added to global cooling since 1940. Banning them caused an immediate jump in temperature. Additinally, if you look at the temperture since 1998/2000 you will see very little increase. Has the aerosol effect peaked? Has something else peaked? If we continue till 2010 with the same temperatures for the whole decade, then the GW scientists will have to seriously examine the computer models they are using, because they are starting to, and will be, out of step with reality.

I can see you had to think long and hard about that response. I repeat, there is plenty of scientific research that shows that the medieval warm period was a global phenomenom, fomr the pacific ocean, to the andes, top china, to greenland. It was real, it was global. I ask you, why are the GW scientists so keen to deny something that happened 600 years ago? Surely their issue is with the future, predictions of violent weather to come and so on. The fact is that their models do not accept a medieval warm period, according to the models, it didnt happen, and it is those models that are predicting chaos in the future. They HAVE to get rid of the MEdieval Warm Period, its a huge embarrasement to them.
