I finaly got around to installing software onto vista. I have noticed that with VS2005, the solution explorer is not being painted correctly. Only the first 10 or so items in the tree are being displayed, the remainder of the control is empty. Resizing the window and/or switching between the tabs causes the treeview to be repainted again, correctly, but by random, it will revert back to only displaying half the contents. I'm on RC1 5600, with VS 8.0.50727.42. Has anybody else experienced a similar problem? I have noticed a similar issue with a list view in Azureus, but that may simply be a bug in their code. Also, I realise my version of vista is a little old. Does anybody know where I can download a newer version? I do not have an MSDN subscription, but I did register for and was given a valid key. ( So I'm not asking for a link to some lame assed warez site ).

Try running your VS2005 as administrator explicitly. When I started my VS2005 normally (With a user that is an administrator) I couldn't debug my webproject and VS didn't repaint automatically. These issues were solved when I run my VS2005 as administrator.

I had already tried that but I may have done it incorrectly. For the file \Visual Studio\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe I selected the option "Run as Administrator" Are there any other files which would require the option being set?

Normally not, are you able to debug your code?

Yes, I have no problems debugging my code. I have also noticed that the problem id not specific to the solution explorer, there is also a tree view in the 'options' window that displays the same symptoms. Also the status bar is not being painted when the window is restored. These problems probably relate to my version of vista, I am currently trying to find a fast torrent for the 6000 build :~

Well, I have updated vista to the release build, and added SP1 to VS, yet the problem remains. The treeview of the solution explorer is not being painted correctly. Any time it loses focus, large white rectangles appear over the text. The problem may relate to VAssistX, but I am not going to go through the whole process of installing again to find out. I hope that MS release a new build of VS as soon as they have corrected all these problems ( supposedly the first quart of 2007 ). I swear, if they release SP2 for VS I am switching compilers!
