In WinXP and earlier, windows explorer came with 3 standard buttons, 'back', 'forward' and 'up'. The 'up' button appears to have been removed in vista. Does anybody know if it's possible to display it? I looked through the settings but couldn't find anything. I used this button quite regulary in XP ( many third party applications open folders ), now the only way I can navigate up is to open the tree view, which is just plain ugly.

You can use the breadcrumb bar to go up one (or many) levels, or hit Alt+Up to go up one level.

Is this the new name for it? The 'breadcrumb' bar is actually quite usefull in that it has the dropdowns for other folders in a particular directory. But it is not the same as having a button ( which remains in a static place ). Thanks for the suggestions though.

Yep, it's named after the feature that some web sites have that shows you where you are in the site hierarchy, like: CodeProject >> Forums home page >> Vista

It kinda makes sense now that 'Hansel and Grettel' comes to mind. Not quite in the MS scheme of naming things though. Suppose it won't be long before an article or two come up on CP for it.
