even if some one is in hurry or wants answer instantaneously, there is no harm.it is his need.if he has time why would he ask in a forum.he has every right to ask for an urgent response.nobody will ask urgent unless it is really so.there is no question of decreasing the willingness to answer.

What's your point??? This is not "The Loung" or the "Soap Box" to discuss those issues here. This board is only for programmatic issues and questions and specially C# ones. so if you have some "Common Knowledge" posts, do it there

You get the right to make your request extra high priority when you're paying for support. Noone here is being paid, we're all giving of our free time. I mentally file anything marked that was as something to consider answering a day or three later if I'm bored and it only garners sarcastic responses. Judging by other peoples responses (or lack there of) the only thing less likely to get a quick accurate response is obvious homework/malware creation questions.

No harm in asking. No one is going to kick you or punch you in the face.

Most people post because they (1) Don't know enough about the technology to get the right answer out of google, (2) Are too lazy to use google (3) Are trying to get someone to do their homework for them (4) .... Asking in a forum is not guarantee of an answer, let alone a fast one.

Yes, there is freedom of speech, and with those freedoms come the right to ask for what every you want. For example: I want a luxury penthouse apartment with a view of the river. Will you give it to me? It is urgent!

Only because of a severe lack of planning. Most of the time I see "urgent" posts it is because the person didn't plan what they were doing. I'm about to embark on some ASP.NET development work involving Master and Content pages in ASP.NET 2.0. I've done ASP.NET before, but this is my first ASP.NET 2.0 project. I am therefore researching what I can and cannot do with this new technology. That way I don't end up making stupid assumptions and code myself into a corner which then requires "urgent" assistance to get out of again.

Actually, there is. When I see someone posting "urgent" or similar I often ignore it at first. My experience is that those posts are usually incoherent as well. They don't provide enough information and when they do you can see they've coded themselves into a corner and can't get out without destroying a lot of the work they have done already. I hate clearing up other people's messes and it means that I, personally, am less likely to respond. I'd imagine that there are other people like me also. So, in summary, please do not mark p

Well, that's not quite true now is it? People will sometimes put urgent in the title just to make it look more important than it is. Also, as others have testified here, this is often down to poor planning on the part of the person asking it. Look - as a simple rule of thumb. If it's urgent to you, try and at least google it before hand. Try variations of terms in google to see if you can get an answer. I've lost count of the number of times somebody has posted a question here, when google turns up relevant answers straight away. Note - if it is apparent that you haven't even tried to google it, you are either going to get a sarcastic answer, or you are going to be told to google for the answer. A lot of the people on this site are professional programmers who give their time freely to help others. We enjoy helping others, but we don't like having our time wasted. We will help you if you get stuck, but you must at least try to help yourself first.

Well he does live in India where they have that condom problem... I know I'd be pissed off if I couldn't find a condom small enough to be of any real use... Silver lining: I think a company that makes zip-ties could really get a stranglehold on the "over-large" condom market there. Ooops. Since I said "condom", does this thread need to be moved to the soapbox?

Or is a comment on that, what you wanted? If yes: Than it's really for the soapbox, where sombody can tell you that its not politicaly correct. (Not me)

What's your point? Did you miss a homework assingment because no one would respond to your URGENT need? Move it to the SB or lounge (as Colin did)

I had an urgent need last night, but I made it to the bathroom before it transitioned to a full-on emergency.

How about clueless people that don't do their own homework, and believe that everyone should do their homework for them.
