What happened to Add/Remove programs in the control panel? Is there an equivalent? How do I see what's installed, and how do I remove things (like codecs that crash Vista)? Marc

In the control panel where it has always been. If you are using the classic view, you may find it has been renamed to "Programs and features"

As has he who cannot be named says, it is now called Programs and features, which is under Programs on the new cntrol panel. If you haven't already found it, learn to use the search box in the top right when in the control panel. It works with natural language, to an extent, and has never failed to find me the page or tool I've been looking for. Once you know the name, you can just click Start and type it to get it in the future.

That little search box is probably the best addition to vista. You don't even need to know the full/correct name, most of the time it will still manage to find what you want. Also, it's not just a search, it also serves as the "Start > Run" of former windows.

I agree, it is almost worth the upgrade cost come January alone. When I first started using Vista, I hardly used it at all, now I use it almost exclusively. Windows Explorer? What's that? It even remembers your browsing history!

Because of the heightened security in the OS, you have to format your hard drive and start over.
