1.50GB \ProgramData
21.3GB \Users <-- mostly Google Desktop cache
14.9GB \WindowsThat totals 56.7GB. So where is the remaining 70GB hidden?!!

I'm so gangsta I eat cereal without the milkI noticed the same when I first installed vista. I didn't look inot too deeply, but I did notice that an large portion of that space was allocated to backup images for system restore and the like. I eventualy reinstalled, this time giving vista a partition of 15GB and a seperate partition for program files and my workspace. vista now takes up about 12GB ( after 3 weeks ) and doesn't bother me with annoying "low disk space" messages.

So the extra space is being reserved for system restore? Why so much? I have no automatic backups scheduled on this machine, so surely it should only do the usual system restore points before certain installations (service packs, updates, etc)? The system has a 900GB drive (RAID0) with 300GB allocated as the Windows Vista drive and 600GB as data. At this rate, I am going to run out of space by mid-January! I ran Windows XP on the same setup for 18 months and the most it ever took with all the same apps I have installed now was 30GB...

I'm so gangsta I eat cereal without the milkIt's probably the same as your memory on vista, just reserved but will be freed when you would need it :) It's like setting System Restore in WindowsXP to use all your space.

I'm so gangsta I eat cereal without the milkI don't know where they are stored, it might be part of System Restore, but that's just a guess. You could try clearing out all the SR backups (turn SR off and back on) and see if that gives you any space back.
