Christmas day will be exactly 3 weeks after we started seeing each other (hence my dilemma). She is the type that would kind of feel guilty if I bought her something that was "too much" at this point, so I'm having minor difficulties figuring out where that line is drawn. So you think the flowers and gift set would be good then? Thanks :)

Flowers are 100% a great idea, for any occasion. As long as the gift set has some nice smelling lotion, a nice smelling bubble bath of some kind(that may be a plus for you as well ), and, well those are the two key elements, anything else is a bonus.

Completely away from the normal flaming of typical day in the Soapbox, perhaps some of you can offer me some advice here. I've started dating someone new a few weeks before Christmas (which is generally a bad idea, but ignore that fact for now). My question is, what would be an acceptable gift to give her for Christmas. Mainly, I don't want her to think I'm cheap (or worse, that I give without giving much thought to what the receiver likes) while at the same time not spending some absurd amount and scaring her away. I was thinking maybe sending her flowers and giving her a gift set from Bath and Body Works ... Any thoughts?

Loser! (<-- wouldn't be the SoapBox without that) ;P Why not take her out for Christmas dinner, ya bum? Better yet, you cook her Christmas dinner. Then buy her a nice bottle of red wine and some flowers, then take her somewhere nice. Buy her a bath basket for two... be careful though, 'cause the old bath basket trick is stale - unless of course she loves baths. Me? I don't know too many women who soak in the tub alone...

I started dating my now-wife right around Christmas. Her birthday is in late January so I had to get her a present after about the same amount of time. I went for silver jewelry from Tiffany's. While outlandish for silver, you can manage to get something nice for $150 or so. That coveted little blue box leaves the impression that she means something to you, without necessarily having to spend an arm and a leg.

Are you oilFactotum now? I'd say that the Tiffany's crap was probably worth $40, though.

Unfortunately that effect's very inconsistant between different men. Far more common is "he's a looser, run away!!!!" :(

The bath basked for two is a bit early for my tastes. The stuff I was thinking about getting had nice smelling lotion, some bath salts, a couple candles ... that sort of thing.

Oh, I see. No problem. I would still try and cook something for her - most women like that. Maybe like a pie or cake or something, then give it to her with a nice bottle of wine. That way she can share it with her family over the holidays. I'm not a fan of giving bath stuff - every woman gets that - so for me, I try to be a little more original. How about some ear-rings (like Red's suggestion), or some nice gloves for winter, stuff like that? Something that says "I care" and is not so generic as a "bath basket". That's just me though and I don't know her, so it's your call; I'm just trying to suggest alternatives.

So you don't think that $150 after a few weeks is too much? I mean, it will quite literally be 3 weeks on Christmas day ...

It's up to you. I mean, I married the girl, so obviously I liked her a lot. That's about the time frame I had, though.

Are you oilFactotum now? I'd say that the Tiffany's crap was probably worth $40, though.

I'm just giving you a hard time. But I really don't like Tiffany's stuff. I find it over-priced.

Unfortunately that effect's very inconsistant between different men. Far more common is "he's a looser, run away!!!!" :(
