Words you never want to hear from your spouse: "Now don't be mad at me, but..."
-
Yesterday the hubby and I were shopping at Wally World and we split up. He found me in the middle of the store carrying a bag as he already bought something which I thought was incredibly odd. The first words out of his mouth are, "Now don't be mad at me, but..." He has never prefaced a sentence that way. The sentence ended with, "but I bought a Nintendo Wii." He just got a PS3 a couple months ago. Then he goes on to tell me how he can sell it for a profit. I put off getting a new dishwasher because first he got the PS3. Then I put it off again because he needed to get a new surround sound system. Now until he sells this dumb thing I have to wait some more. Has your spouse/sig other started a conversation like this? What did they do? Were you actually mad?

That's really crappy. I feel bad for your situation. Are there any financial courses/learn how to manage your money seminars you could go to with her? What is she spending her money on anyhow? Is it possibly a shopping addiction where she needs treatment? I've heard that most couples fight about sex and money. When I was in college we had some lean times, but we never really fought about it. The only time I can remember is when we got overdrawn and I tried to hide it and fix it before my husband found out, but he did and was more upset about the secrecy. I really, really feel for you.

I don't know. I doubt it would help.

Sushi, I suspect. Food, almost certainly.

Yep, that's pretty much it. We don't have any money troubles nowadays, so we just fight more about sex...

Mike, you can't be serious. I'd LOVE a Wii, I haven't bought one because there's no time in my life to use it.

That was really my point. We're all (even at my age 61) kids at heart but there are so so many more important things than playing games. That said, it makes all the sense in the world to have some form of relaxation but "gaming" with these boxes seems all too consuming.

I should go on strike but I would probably give in LOOOONG before the filth bothered him. I did stop washing his clothes for awhile. He has a habit of not cleaning out his pockets. I've washed his wallet numerous times. Then I washed the cell phone. I told him it wasn't fair to get mad at me if he wasn't going to do his own laundry and he knows I don't check the pockets. Maybe I'll wash his underwear in the current dishwasher.

Now that's just uncalled for. If you're gonna do the laundry, do it right. Personally, i'd wear the same jeans for months before i'd let them fall into the hands of someone so careless... ;P

As long as he sells it as he claims he will, there will be none. However, if he opens it up for himself, it's customary for about 3-4 days after death. Please feel free to send your potato salad and tater tot casserole (for some reason when people die they always send copious amounts of these items) to: Mrs. Ono-Y'Didnt 123 It's Your Own Funeral Lane I-Told-You-So-Ville, SD 57006

After seeing you post your age I can see the difference of opinion. I think once Pong arrived generations have been playing video games more and more. I remember the arcade in the big town over would give money based on grades. That was a Saturday highlight. If my dad were alive he'd be a bit older that you. He was terrible when it came to anything electronic. The man seriously could not run the TV remote control or figure out call waiting. Not saying older people are like that, but I can definately see the generation gap.

I think you're missing the manner in which you can go on strike, and have him in pain within days. Depending on how much he's already accustomed to such pain, it takes me 2 weeks to notice.

If we're talking about the same kind of 'manner' that would be 2 days in our house. (Hey, we don't have kids.)

They are almost impossible to find in this area so he might have a buyer at work. Otherwise he said he can probably make about $50 US selling it on EBay.

re: generation gap That's why I finally pointed out my age. However I couldn't begin to tell you how many $ 0.25 I spent on pong when it became a staple in bars. Ditto pinball machines, I won a lot of free beer in pinball challenges. As life gets shorter, time becomes much more precious. By the way, can you offer an unattributable opinion on the FX530-series.

It could be worse. My husband's best friend has two kids and had the same number of um, how to discretely say...'special meetings with the wife' for the entire LAST YEAR.

I personally have not used teh FX530 series (I have a laptop) but there has been a lot of internal buzz about the series. Online I've seen mixed stuff. Kind of what I gather is if you want to customize a lot, it's a good option, but if you don't care about getting 'standard' stuff, it seems pricy. The one thing I like about Gateway is all customer service is now 100% based in North America. Nothing against our Indian (dot not feather) friends, but I personally really dislike having overseas customer service. They've been making big internal strides to resolve customer issues/fix time. I think our biggest competitor right now is Dell, but I've been reading horror stories here at CP about their service.

I went without for a year, and close to it for about 6 years after, I know what you're saying.
