How to improve the environment? Simple. Release packs of large wild dogs to hunt down, tear apart and kill as many wild furry animals as they can. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/6310211.stm[^] http://environment.guardian.co.uk/conservation/story/0,,2002471,00.html?gusrc=rss&feed=1[^]

I'd rather not if it's all the same to you. Actually I read a similar story (but in reverse) about an island near australia where the sea birds were getting eaten by feral cats. They killed all the cats. Now there are even fewer sea birds because all the eggs are being eaten by rats. Predators are very important in a balanced eco-system.

I think he's probably just rude and abusive isn't it? Some people aren't able to discuss things in a calm and rational manner and hence just resort to abuse. It's a typical knee jerk reaction of the small minded and petulant.

What, so if I'd suggested releasing packs of wolves to hunt and kill deer and it HADN'T been backed up by an article your abuse would have been warranted?

Well if you had suggested this to resolve a problem in the environment then I would have been interested in a discussion, however if you were TROLLing (which I thought you were) then you probably would have received the same response.

So, pack of wolves, out for lunch. See big red thing with fuck off big horns in one field, see a load of small white docile things in another... I think the sheep are gonna be lunch.

That might be a problem, biut it would give us an excuse to go out with big packs of wolfhounds, to hunt down any sheep eating wolves. I'm sure they'd get the message.

With a little genetic engeering, I wonder how difficult it would be to have a wolfhound-sheep mix. That would surprise those damned wolves! :~

Reintroduction of predators is so disputable. I bet wolves would find much more convenient to attack herds rather than wild animals.

We've been down this road in the western US with ranches surrounding our national parks. I'm sure there's good data available about how much of a problem it's been for the ranchers that would be a much better starting point for the discussion than simple histrionics.

I think if you are trying to reinstate vast swathes of forest then it woulkd probably work. You'd have to shoot wolves that strayed into farmed areas. Most of Britain currently has onlky small areas of woodland interspered with farmland, so in that sort of area you'd have a much bigger problem.

From what I've heard it's all hysteria. Occasionally it's happened, and probably in remote locations. But, for the most part wolves try to stay away from people. Predators help keep the balance.
