Is it just me or does Vista seem to be slower than Windows XP?

It will be: more features == more code > version number == more bloat == slower OS

Well seeing how their requirements are so high and mighty, I would say there is a great chance it may be slow until we get the 4 GHz+ dual chips. ;P

I have a fairly high-end system. When I do boot into vista it seems much snappier than XP. But, I rarely boot into vista as half my crap doesn't work or work as well as they do on XP. Once there are 'Vista" alternatives to my favorite tools and utilities and games like Oblivion don't run like crap I'll start usinging it on a daily basis. Until then, I only boot into it to test some code.

Vista is slower to boot, but I didn't notice any other differences in speed (neither positive nor negative). 3D gaming might be slower because the graphic drivers had to be changed significantly for the new driver framework and the new drivers just aren't optimized as good as the XP drivers are. And if your system doesn't have enough RAM, it'll be much slower. Don't try Vista on less than 1 GB RAM.

Intel 4 3GHz - 1.5GB running Vista Ultimate My startup time is considerably faster than previous XP Home On startup, I'm launching Media Center, Orb and Napster, and I'm ready to rock in less than a minute from powered down state.

I thought it was supposed to be considerably faster to boot? At least, that's what some have said.

It seems to take both extremes -- it is either much faster, or much slower. RAID seems to slow the boot down considerably, whereas one machine here goes from POST to logon in around two seconds.

:omg: it's a lot faster to boot on my PC. I admit though the installation is still clean, which wasn't the case anymore when I still had Xp installed. :-D

3 Ghz intel dual core,1gb ram , 512mb video (...vista ultimate) evrything works fine...i must say beter then xp ! its speed is about your hardware ! if you do dot have minimum hardware required for this to work dont try ! it will be hard ! because vista is created for new machines like (dual core processors) high technology if you do not have this ...buy or dont try it will not work good ! bravoone out!
