I did the water and dirt after doing the black holes thing. You were asleep? I thought you were just closing your eyes so you could listen more attentively. :( cheers, Chris Maunder

What did you actually do??? I do have an interest in Physics but after the exam this morning and the fact that my head hurts I think that interest may be fading.. unless of course you can make it interesting again.

Another black hole fan! I've always been fascinated by them. I love grappling with concepts such as infinite density, gravity, and time coming to a standstill. I love the eerie concept that it is impossible to escape the event horizon or send any information back out from inside due to the gravitational forces involved. I love the way they warp the space and time around them on such a magnificent scale. They are one heck of a fascinating subject. One day I hope to understand the maths behind them and perhaps do some proper research. Simon I need your clothes, your boots, and your copy of VS.NET. Sonork ID 100.10024

Brian Delahunty wrote: What did you actually do??? I ended up majoring in Quantum mechanics and Special/General relativity. It was wild. My thesis was on the extension of 2-surfaces across the event horizon of a black hole. Basically at the event horizon (the point where the escape velocity equals the speed of light) a typical description of space time using polar coordinates goes haywire because you get singularities in the equations. My thesis was a reworking and merging of two techniques that used a coordinate change to extend the description of space-time across the event horizon and up to the black hole itself. It was way cool, but it required a ton of maths. The Quantum mechanics was also a lot of fun - all you need there is a penchant for integrals. cheers, Chris Maunder
