I'm browsing Amazon looking for a book on a particular topic when I come across a book with 4.5 stars. That's a great rating, so I decide to check it out. While reading the customer reviews I come across one that seems a bit inflationary. I decide to "read all of this customer's reviews". As it turns out, he has over five pages of reviews on tech books. He gives every book he reviews five stars and some of the reviews are so similar that they appear to be copy/pasted and then massaged to fit the topic. So does this guy really read this many books? Does he really love every book he reads? Or... hmmm...

Speaking of Amazon.com reviews, did anyone catch my review of VS2005 Standard Edition? :)

I have to say that it's still never failed to work for me.

It will.. it will! ;) One of the most annoying error that happens quite occasionally is when the intellisense database gets out of sync. Meaning: your new code won't show up in the intellisense menus until the next recompile. It's also totally hopeless when it comes to external code - it works sometimes.

It ain't perfect, but i gotta tell you - it's worlds better than it was in VC6. It's slow as mud at rebuilding the database, but once it's done it does reasonably well - even the 80+project, 500+KLoC solution nearly always has correct information ready at hand.

Did something happen after SP1? I haven't used it much after SP1. I do know that for small projects, the pre-SP1 intellisense didn't work very well.

Prior to SP1, i had installed a couple of different hotfixes to help with the speed, they might have done something for accuracy as well, 'cause i didn't really notice much of a difference after the SP1 install.

I noticed that too on other books. I usually wont buy a programming/tech book unless it has ample reviews because some of those reviews are bogus.
