About to purchase a new computer. Thinking of Vista Home Premium. 1. Would you recommend opting for 4GBs of memory? 2. Are there any reasons to go with only 2 GBs? 3. Thinking of going with a Q6600 processor — any comments?
Thanking you in advance for your help and time.

Having a high performance machine will not make anything bad. It will have any performance hitch :) Normally a Dual Core Processor with 2 Gigs of RAM and recent Graphics would be a Good Choice for Windows Vista. With your configuration, you can also add a nVidia 8 Series or ATI HD 2000 series Graphic card to your box.

You'll need to use a 64-bit OS to make use of all 4 GB. Running 64-bit is not always easy/possible, you're at the mercy of drivers. If you don't have a specialized need that requires 4 GB, I would just go with 2 GB and save the money or use it on a larger HD.

I recommend the one called "Ubuntu".
