Shameless blog self-promotion? Only your dentist knows for sur -- I mean, I think so, yes. Terrible grammar and punctuation, too.. a pain to read.

Well my dentist is to blame, as he never punished me for my bad nettiquette. Which is a good thing, because it's pretty nasty getting punished from a dentist, considering his job. Just trying to get a blog commented a tad, thank you for the pointer on the grammar.

So, what you want us to look at is a website where you tell us that you don't like the dial up connection so you steal your neighbour's bandwidth through their unsecured network. Theft is theft no matter how you want to spin it!

but the point is that i was not abusing their networks, i was in fact, optimizing them. that's still bad? note I'm not using their internet connection as i have a connection which i do pay for. perhaps the blog is misleading.

The owners of the network set-up their network in a particular way that satisfies them. If their customers are not happy then their customers should request the company to make alterations. Either that, or they find another supplier. It is not for you to meddle. By meddling you could upset something that could have serious financial and contractual implications that you know nothing about. Do not interfere with that which is not your property. And as stated by others, theft is theft howsoever you dress it. If your blog is misleading, perhaps you should think both longer and harder before committing yourself into print.

It does not need to be ruined. But what you MUST do is communicate with those telecoms and Internet Service Providers in Cyprus. Perhaps there already exists community functionality. But what you must not do is take liberties as this could result in you being sued and/or charged with a relevant criminal offense. So do it the right, proper and legal way.

Then tell your neighbours to their face if you think it's not a problem. Go up to them and say: "Hi, I detected your internet access and I optimized it for you!" Since you've done nothing wrong, there should be no problem with that.

That is a good idea, although I wouldn't know who they were. I will though notify them of security protocols which aren't considered "broken". I'm not trying to justify myself for an action, covering it with a pretense action, although it may seem it, I was merely questioning the matter ethically lather than legally. But then again, you're right, I wouldn't be questioning it in the first place had I not felt guilty.

You can always seek the opinion of the CP members via appropriate forum. We are a bunch of reasonably wise and knowledgeable, and usually well-behaved people. That don't mean we make mistakes - we do - but we learn from our errs.
