I've not used it but the consensus just after the Windows release was that Safari was crap. My brother is a long-time Mac user, as he works in publishing and he says it's crap too. He uses Firefox. My current favourite is Firefox. But I also use IE 6 and Opera 9. I tried IE 7 briefly at work, but haven't installed it at home. But FF is still better than IE 7. Opera has some useful features not found in the others, and it was the original innovator in tabbed browsing and so on. But FF popularised it.

Looks aren't everything but they do count for something. I don't like the default FF theme in version 2.0, so in fact I experimented with a number of themes before rolling back to the 1.5 theme! :) One of the problems with Opera is that it doesn't look very nice, even though it has many good features. FF looks and behaves a bit more like IE (plus you can apply an IE 6 or 7 theme if you want), while having superior functionality. I expect at some point I will give Safari a go but will most likely wait for the first revision. However, having three installed browers is enough for now.

Is your problem just the color scheme, or the overall layout? The latter is very heavily alterable via drag/drop and my prefered layout is much closer to IE6/FF than the out of the box standard.

I've not tried altering it. But in any case at the current time I still prefer FF for other reasons. 1. FF can successfully render more pages, partly due to many sites now testing with FF, but not Opera. Also, a lot of AJAX sites don't work properly with it. 2. The FF extensions model and overall usability. Yes, I know Opera has quite a lot of stuff built in but I still find FF better overall. The main weaknesses of FF are slow initial startup and large memory usage. But for me its usability trumps both.

I've not heard of it before. Is it based on IE like Avant Browser? Judging by the screenshots it looks like it might be.

FF is good for me. At least only that it is allowed by my System Administrator to install. :)
