I've attended a game development course preview. The course offers a diploma for game development and the attractive thing is that it offers testimonials and direct job offers or freelance opportunities for students who make the grade. Also, enrolled students are assigned to be paid game testers. The software used for this course are: DarkBasic, GameMaker, Visual C++, Maya, 3D Max and the school's own game engine. Is this course worth a try? And is DarkBasic useful in the game industry? I live in Singapore and the name of the school is "Asian Centre for Professional Excellence".

no clue about darkbasic, but the gaming industry has a reputation of employing predatory labor practices. There're far more people who want to make games than game coder slots so alot of companies pay well below industry average, and demand extremely long working hours as the project progresses confident in the fact that by the time they realize how badly they've been screwed the bulk of the new hires won't have any time left to look for a new job and can't afford to quit and spend a few months unemployed. Then after the mass exodus following the release date they simply hire a new crop of eager suckers.

-- You have to explain to them [VB coders] what you mean by "typed". their first response is likely to be something like, "Of course my code is typed. Do you think i magically project it onto the screen with the power of my mind?" --- John Simmons / outlaw programmer

A certain two-letter-publisher is famous for their labor practises. They are predatory at best.

Anything involving programming that includes the word "basic" can't possibly be good for anything.
