Today I just got intimidated like anything at the Hotel Saravana Bhavan cash counter. Whilst I was making the bill payment, three as***les were just barging at the counter at the same time, as if they were just waiting for thier flight outside taking off. The cash counter guy totally got confused by the stream of questions that these creatures were putting at him and he gave me the wrong bill. Immediately though he recognizes his folly and called me back to give the correct one. When will people understand the essence and needness of 'Queue' and 'Sensical Public Behavior' rather than mimicing cattle?

I noticed in India a complete inability to queue. Everyone just opiles up and starts talking at once. Its chaos.

Truth is the subjection of reality to an individuals perception

Over here it's just the length of the queues, and the turn-around time that's a problem. SA queuing is normally very decent.

You want to live in England...queuing is almost our national sport. Here for some unknown reason at a counter with multiple windows open we can form a single queue which will then filter one by one into each window as it becomes open...no-one tells us to do this, there are no signs...we are just english :) Its the most democratic form of queuing in the world! :D lol It happens everywhere even places like burger king and mcdonalds :) lol Cheers Cads

You win, if you have queuing at McDonalds. I see the single-queue phenomenon sometimes, but normally it's pre-enforced, and with notriously slow places like home affairs, different windows do different things.

That should be the most peaceful and admirable self-discipline. No chaos whatsoever. Isn't it?

I have watched the MacDonalds Queueing at Dallas. The self-enforced and the self-induced self-discipline, as I have mentioned in the other post, is really admirable. :)

It's not exactly self discipline, it's just what people do. It's the norm around these parts :) You do get people pushing in and jumping the queue but then the rest of the queue tuts and shakes their heads and the queue jumper is made to feel properly ashamed of themselves! :) They won't move like but at least us proper 'queuers' have tutted and shook our heads. Cheers Cads

Then we certainly do win because it's a national pass-time here! I queue to get on the motorway to work, then i queue to get off it, then i que to get in to the car park, then i queue to get a space, then i queue to get in the building i work in, then i queue to get a coffee. Thats my normal morning, thats a 45 minute period and i've queued 6 times before i make it to my desk, and i don't even consider it wrong! One thing i do fond mad though. Go to a festival. There'll be two sets of toilet, one for men, one for ladies. At the mens one, men walk in, go, and then leave. It takes seconds. Girls each need a cubicle, so you can't fit as many girls in the same space. They also need to sit down, which takes slightly longer. So why don't we have 2-3 times as many toilets for girls? instead we just have a really long queue....and no one complains....

I last queued commuting when I caught the bus.  The bus terminus at Ghandi square has some queues about +150m long, they need to snake around to avoid the roads.  Fortunately my bus queues were much shorter, and even more fortunately I now use a motorbike, so I never queue even on the busiest roads.
