Hi all, Wear your creative hats and come up with a creative, innovative name for a software company. The only guideline is: The name should sound like a software company's name. Appreciate your help. Thank you.

I'll give you the same advice that I gave another poster on this site yesterday. The name is something that you have to live with, and which delights you, so you must be involved in the creation of the name. You can end up paying a lot of money to creative agencies to get this type of advice, and they superficially pretend to listen to you, but you will usually end up with a SPOC (steaming pile of crap) that you have no emotional investment in. Bottom line - what do you want the company to be? How do you see the company? What image do you want it to convey? Think about these and then start writing words down that sum up these concepts/idea. (Have a look at the lounge yesterday to see the advice that was given).

The way we came up with ours was by picking out a load of syllables that sounds right to us then generated a list of random combinations based upon them (well what do you expect from programmers!). Once we had made that list of made up words we began passing it around and got rid of the ones we didn't like at all or sounded stupid. Once the list was down to ~20 we went through and checked if each one was available as a domain name for at least .net, .com and our local country TLD's. That left us with the last few names that we liked and were available. We spent a good week or 2 getting used to the feel of each one and eventually decided on one. That name then meant a lot to us as it was something we had constructed, something we liked and something we had worked for ... just like any other project :)
