The same inconsistent PC loonacy has been in place in the UK for several years now. Surprisingly we still seem to have the highest teenage pregnancy rate in Europe, astronomically high STD rates >25% in some sectors of the population and a high and rising abortion rate as well. Now that is what 'family is the gas chamber of society' radical anti-human self hating leftists call SUCCESS.

Nothing is exactly what it seems but everything with seems can be unpicked.

If you were to stop talking in parables so much, I might actually begin to discern some reasonable meaning in your posts. How is family the "gas chamber of society"?

Apparently teenagers have become as powerful as the unions and are now holding their respective countries hostage enabling them to engage in a cornucopia of drugs, sex, violence, booze! I don't know - at 11 years old sex was absolutely not in my mind, or even on my mind's horizon for that matter.

Same for me. Hard to believe that 11 year olds are into this kind of stuff...I have some suspicion that is starts with poor parenting.

"The family is the gas chamber of society" is a favourite quote often made by marxist acedemics in the UK. It is a way of recognising them as they seldom if ever call themsleves marxist these days. I did recently come across the original 1960s source but I can't recall who it was now. Many humanities courses in UK universities are still taught by these marxist dinosaurs and the hang over of material from the period when they dominated acedemia is significant. Unfortunately many of their incredibly destructive social policy ideas happen to dovetail nicely with the unacknowledged adgendas of current state bodies so you get the kind of nonsense Red reported being introduced. As I've often noted UK politics has the horrible and repeated pattern of things only really getting done when the schemes of the loony left and the crypto faschist right happen to coincide. Apologies if I write in 'parables', it's probably a combination of my upbringing and trying unsuccessfully to be brief.

It can't be directly attributed to our cack handed attempt at social democracy alone - many countries with franker sex education and even more liberal birth control policies do not have the same problems. Much of it is the result of poverty of aspiration and welfare dependency.

Currently in the United States, one out of every 3 children are born out of wedlock. 70% of all black children and nearly half of all hispanic children are born out of wedlock. The other day I had the great misfortune of watching 5 minutes of Oprah. The guest was Martha Stewart's obviously wealthy (and quite stuck up) single daughter describing her quest to get pregnant through artificial insemination. It's no wonder the stigma of out-of-wedlock birth no longer exists.

After an outbreak of pregnancies among middle school girls, education officials in
this city have decided to allow a school health center to make birth control pills
available to girls as young as 11.
                    ...
Students need parental permission to access the school's health center. But treatment
is confidential under state law, which allows the students to decide whether to inform
their parents about the services they receive.

So how do you solve a rampant teenage out-of-wedlock birthrate? Give already irresponsible teenagers an excuse to have more sex!

Question: Which segments of society? As I understand it, and my understanding is amitedly limited, there's a large portion of the population there that is: Church of England, pure secular, and Muslim. So, is it the religous segment(s) or the secular segments with the high STD rates, etc. Or is this buried too deep in the statistics to be known?

Just playing Devil's advocate, but what if the parents were abusing the girl? Notification to the parents could make the situation much worse. I think for kids who have a good relationship with their parents they are going to share the information regardless. It's those with questionable parents that the privacy clause may help.

Hey! I finally found a picture of myself!

Sorry, I missed that.  So, maybe they should rather give them fertility drugs, encouraging them to have less sex.

I think the 25% figure was associated with teenage girls, by which they mean 16-20 year olds because of course figures derived from the illegal activity of underage sex are not collectible  Don't quote me on this because I'm not 100% certain that was the category and this was after all a BBC report. I am sure the 25% figure was what was quoted though. Despite the 70+% of UK citizens who accredit themselves as Christian on Census and surveys only a single digit percentage actaully attend church more than twice a year and somewhat less than 2% are probably actually Christians. Muslims now make up a somewhat larger single digit percentage of the population although figures for 'practising Muslims' are again less. I have no idea how this relates to the STD figures, I very much doubt that any correlation has been analysed but it is highly probable that the vast majority of whatever figures are collected will be from the 'nominally Christian' majority population.

im all for privacy, but an 11 year old's right to privacy, espceially medical, is just absurd. also, i thought that privacy from medical treatment didnt start until age 16 and 18 in most states. wouldnt the parental consent form also make the information privy to the parents? i know if my 11 year old daughter needed medical services from a public school, i would make the stipulation that i be notified of any treatments, or else i could handle the matter by taken her a a real doctor and not a school nurse. i tried to see a mental health professional when i was in high school, and they refused to treat me with out parental consent for any treatments they prescribed.

UK state schools can't give a child paracetemol or a sticking plaster in case they get sued for an unexpected allergic reaction, even with written parental consent but they can arrange an abortion on behalf of a 14 year old without telling or seeking the consent of her parents or even asking who the father is. That is the level this insanity has reached.
