Are you a diagnosed CP addict ? Are you conducting parasomnia posts ? Yes possibly you have been posting whilst asleep. I know many CP addicts appear to have dreams about posting, which is quite normal. But parasomnia posts could be quite dangerous. So if you think you might have a problem see a specailist ASAP please. Regardz Colin J Davies

Thank you Colin, for working to raise awareness of this problem. I have a few more points to add: It is common to think of "sleep-posting" as merely an amusing oddity. However, for those afflicted it is a very serious problem, one that can be difficult to diagnose and treat. Vigilance and care is required in order to prevent harm to the subject. Dangers abound for the parasomniatic poster: accidentally posting secret information on the nature of the Universe, unintentionally posting into a flame war, replacing punctuation with odd little square symbols... the list goes on. And that's not taking into account the physical harm that could befall should the person be sleeping in an unfamilar location when striken - falling down stairs while on route to the PC, wandering into traffic, hours spent trying to post using a typewriter... Tragic, indeed. Signs you or someone you know may be a parasomniatic poster:

    1. Subject is under a lot of stress during the day (potential triggers: football team is doing poorly, or article is down-rated)
    2. Subject often wakes up in front of the PC with no memory of how (s)he got there.
    3. Subject often finds self unable to remember posts made the previous day.
    4. Posts are found with timestamps occurring during supposed sleep period. (this must be carefully examined, as it's possible CP just switched to "Canadian time" and forgot to tell anyone)
    5. Subject is experiencing other sleep disturbances, such as somniloquy, "night terrors", somnambulism, or "sleep sex".

Finally, remember never to awaken an afflicted person while they are posting, as if they are disturbed, their legs will fall off. Thank you. --------

Have you hugged your monitor today?

It is interesting how much we have learned about the science of "sleep" in aproximatly the last 8 years. There are so many differing disorders and considering the majority of humanith spend 1/4 to a 1/3 of there lives engaged in this activity, the science will only continue to grow. It would be nice if we could set up a section here at CP for individuals with CPian disorders. Shog9 wrote: accidentally posting secret information on the nature of the Universe, unintentionally posting into a flame war, replacing punctuation with odd little square symbols... I guess I'm lucky that I don't know any of the Universes secrets or don't understand flame wars, and can only do crud HTML. So I can't have yet engaged in any of those activities.
