We have about 100 months left. If global greenhouse gas emissions have not begun to decline by the end of 2015, then our chances of restraining climate change to within the two degrees "safety line" - the level of warming below which the impacts are severe but tolerable - diminish day by day thereafter. http://www.newstatesman.com/200711080026[^]

just got hit by a piece of falling sky.

Mike The NYT - my leftist brochure. Calling an illegal alien an “undocumented immigrant” is like calling a drug dealer an “unlicensed pharmacist”. God doesn't believe in atheists, therefore they don't exist.

It's like paychecks, except the Gov't charges me an extra 10% if i actually want to use it. So, paychecks + fun taxes headgames. ;)

Worst case scenario, a few million people die (mostly annoyed to death by repeatedly being told the sky is falling) and those left will be much better off (though they won't deserve it having annoyed millions to death by repeatedly telling everyone the sky is falling and pushing crappy cars on the masses). But I'd suspect a more reasonable outcome. In a few years when we notice nothing has happened, all the alarmist will say "see, wiping our asses with a single square of TP like Sheryl Crow said really did save the world", or science will find the true and natural cause for this temporary warming and we'll better understand what happened and be better armed for the next apocalyptic alarmist fad.

Well the first will happen but the second is only fantasy.

I know, just trying to be optimistic. If nothing else we can still look back and say "well you were wrong last time". But that never works on them either.

We'll all be dead three years before that happens. Dec 21 2012 - the end of the Mayan calendar, and life as we know it.

There are actually lots of cultures that have mythology centered around that date for some reason. But the Mayans didn't actually predict the end on that date, just the end of a period. In any event, I'm glad I have a chance to live long enough to see if anything happens. I had fun on 6/6/06 listening to people claiming the end was near. Or 1/1/2000. I wonder if there was a Y1k problem for Cobol programmers to worry about...
