    I need to upgrade an app to allow users to export data to Excel (currently it allows for .csv). Does anybody know of a component that can be used for this ( I'd rather not automate Excel if I don't have to ) ?

      Do a search on Google or this site for 'JET OLEDB Excel' and you'll find plenty of results relating to your question.

        Response.ContentType = "application/ms-excel"; Response.AppendHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename="+fileName+".xls"); Response.End();
