CodeProject makes 100hot.com!

Actually, CodeGuru is #7. Since the CodeGuru site is technically on the developer.com domain, it is listed as developer.com. In fact, the only sites that are ahead of CodeGuru are sites like MSDN, Netscape and Sun. Therefore, (since you brought the issue up :) CodeGuru is still far and away the most popular site of its kind on the Web.

Hi Tom, Just for curiousity, do you know where Code guru would be independent of all the other sites on developer.com? I don't think there is any question that Code guru is the big boy on the block btw, it is just nice to see CodeProject.com make the list too :)

>>> Just for curiousity, do you know where Code guru would be independent of all the other sites on developer.com? <<< I wish I did. Unfortunately, everyone does it by domain. I know that we make up 90% of all developer.com traffic but that doesn't tell me exactly where we fall. >>> I don't think there is any question that Code guru is the big boy on the block btw, it is just nice to see CodeProject.com make the list too <<< I apologize if I came across with the wrong impression here. I was simply correcting the other poster's remark that we weren't on the list. Now, that that's done, on to the important stuff: It's not "nice" that CodeProject has made it in the top 100. It's freakin' **AWESOME**!! What most people don't realize is that while Chris and I do run competing sites and work for different companies, the simple fact of the matter is that Chris is one of the few people that I can truly call a friend and he's deserved *every bit of success* his site has garnered. Simply put, they've done an incredible job on this site. That's why when someone mentioned on CodeGuru that our making CodeProject the resource of the month was politically motiviated, I was quick to correct that person that no it's nothing to do with politics. It has to do with the fact that CodeProject is a helluva nice site and should be recognized as such every bit as much as ours

Tom, That's cool! I thought it was very nice of you to make codeproject the site of the month, and I'm glad to hear that you and Chris get on so well. I really like what he does here, and what you do on Code guru. In the end, all this effort is great for us.

I don't mean to be nasty, but Codeguru is stagnate and dead compared CodeProject. The term "New" must mean something entirely different to the folks at Codeguru. I found the following "New" article in just a few moments at Codeguru the other day: http://codeguru.earthweb.com/tips/user\_def\_keywords.shtml - Zafir Anjum (1999/05/17) I did notice the "Latest Updates" on the home page but I get the distinct feeling that there has been a mad rush to make up for a whole lot of lost time. I'm sure that the success of CodeProject was primarily responsible for this renewed attention to Codeguru by Earthweb.

Where exactly do you "think" we listed Zafir's article as new? Zafir hasn't been on the site in over a year and nowhere on our site have we claimed that any of his articles are new. Anyway, I don't want to let this thread sink into a CG vs. CP debate. This thread should be about the great job Chris has done. Period. Since you obviously aren't one to let a silly thing like facts interfere with your myopic opinions, flame on. I won't bother to respond. Hopefully, others on this thread will be respectful enough of Chris' work here to focus on that

That's a bug on that page has *nothing* to do with where *most* people look for new articles (the "Latest Updates" page)

They're really at number 7 under the guise of developer.com (since codeguru.com no longer exists) Check out this link to one of their discussion threads http://codeguru.earthweb.com/bbs/wt/showpost.pl?Board=feedback&Number=515&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5
wasn't Codeguru #8 when chris was running it just before it became part of erathweb

I thought it was pretty cool that CG made CP a "Site of the Month." I thought that was pretty magnamonious of ya all. Do you have any idea what Zafir is doing now. Is he in the picture? Do you ever talk to him? What's he doing? And did he really get cash for CG, or was it just EW shares? It was nice of you to stop on by. Lori

Codeguru just play catch up. It's not dead. Obviously a lot is happening and there are announcements all the time on what will be coming up soon, but they just seem to be following this site. First they start a tutorial push, then the interviews, now we hear that the discussion board and comments boards will be integrated. I'm waiting to see ratings on articles and the CodeGuru Cafe. If they want to do that it's fine but I just don't wanna here that codeguru is the number one site. so what if it has a lot of visitors. Doesn't mean it's better

Thanks Martin. Tom and I have known each other for nearly 3 years and he's a really nice guy. It's sometimes weird being on opposite sides of the fence, but we try and keep the "my site is better than yours!" emails we send to each other to a minimum :) Actually I think we mostly just tell each other how cool each other's sites are! cheers, Chris Maunde
