I phoned their support yesterday night [well past midnight] and when I tolds him SMTP and POP are blocked, the nut told me that they've done that to prevent people running their own mail servers. :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: What stupidity, eh? I then gave a lecture [all on my mob ticking expensively each minute] on how there is a difference between inward bound traffic and outward bound traffic. I told people would obviously want to POP mails and some of the would even want to SMTP mails. [On a side note the ISP provides a non-relaying SMTP server, very useful eh? :wtf: ] Then the guy thought for 5 seconds [the maximum his brain allowed at any one time] and told me this, "It works here, no problems at all". I nearly fainted! it fucking worked there, eh??? Oh , yeah!!!!!!!! Anyway shock had made me a little wobbly and I disconnected and went to sleep - an uneasy 5 hours of semi sleep :-( I am awake now and 110 and 25 are completely blocked! This sucks!!! I tell ya, this sucks!!!!!!! Nish

VSNL has suffered a loss of $115 million (Rs. 575 crores) due to collapse of MCI Worldcom. Don't be too harsh on them. I have never wasted time worrying about such insignificant things. Rama Krishna wrote: I am amazed that they have a support and people working there at night. Yeah. It;'s not fun for me now. I telnet to my work server [Linux] and then telnet to my smtp server and use smtp chat to read my mails. It's a real pain when mails have attachments or if they are in html mail format :(( Typing RETR 4 is not the same as clicking on a list view item in Outlook Express :(( Nish

As you see from the nish's post, he is dealing with a private ISP, I would be amazed if VSNL have support working during day time :-) Kannan

Try www.mail2web.com[^] - a nice web interface for reading and sending mails from any pop3 or imap4 server. I use that from work to read my home emails, as it's 100x better than the webmail interface my ISP provide. You can set up a personalised page, with all of your pop3 accounts remembered (if you have more than one), so you can just pick an account from the dropdown, and enter your pop3 password. -- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit!
