DOZENS of protests against the Church of Scientology across the US, Canada and Western Europe are planned today as part of a campaign organised by the internet group "Anonymous". Anonymous are a loose collection of internet users, including some hackers, who declared "war" on the church last month and temporarily prevented access to at least one official Scientology website. Members of the group organised a worldwide day of protest to coincide with the birthday of Lisa McPherson, who died while in the care of a branch of the church in 1995. Criminal charges filed against the church over Ms McPherson's death were dropped in 2000. Lots of things are dumber than scientology. The belief in moderate Muslims, for example. The belief that multi-culturalism is a sustainable attribute of a culture. The belief that morality can be open source. The belief that health care can be effectively managed by a bureaucracy. The belief that Roe V. Wade somehow represents checks and balances. The belief that socialism can be controlled democratically. Well, shit, now that I think about it, every damn thing leftists believe in is dumber than scientology.

You can't even read well, can you? As the article says, Jeffersonian Democracy describes the goals of a particular philosophy of government. Jeffersonian Liberal predates Libertarian as a title (I heard it first in the mid 1950's) and describe the people who believe in that style of governing. Now I wouldn't necessarily takes bets as to your personhood, but I am damn sure that you are not a goal.

Mr Shannon is apparently under the delusion that Jefferson ... a rich man, as much an aristocrat as anyone has ever been in America, and *importantly* one who couched his political language in terms of "you and me against the wealthy oppressors" ... would not have been right at home in the modern Democratic Party. Of course, in your case, it seems that you object to hearing about the misnamed "Jeffersonian politics" precisely because you oppose and loathe the political philosophy Mr Shannon means by that phrase.

I've never encountered the term "Jeffersonian Liberal" in my life. The only google references I found were all related somehow to libertarians. I've frequently encountered various versions of the phrase "traditional liberal", by which is meant someone who believes in small government, low taxes, private property, religious freedom, etc. But much of that predates Jeffersonian democracy and can be traced further back into the Enlightenment.
