    1. Buy a machine that does not come with an OS on it ( this involves owning a non-OEM OS and keeping it when you discard the old machine, or buying an OS seperately ) 2. NEVER install Real Player. 3. Make a rescue CD with all your drivers and backdrops, etc on it. Then you'll find this stuff goes much easier. I did it just the other day. My new Dell arrived today and here is my new to-do list, * Open case and reseat all the cards that are lose. * Replace cheapo network card * Remove AOL, MSN Explorer, Real Player and all the other crap that OEM's like to put on * Download 30mb of Windows Updates (on a 64k idsn line) * IMPORTANT - Put my Gillian Anderson desktop backdrop on * Install all my software * Copy all my document and source code from my old machine * Run adware and find out what little presents have been left by Real Player * Figure how I'm going to get my new 21 inch monitor up two flights of stairs without dropping it. Looks like I'm in for a fun day Michael :-) Logic, my dear Zoe, merely enables one to be wrong with authority. - The Doctor

Just skip all that with the following steps 1) Send machine back to Dell 2) Build my own machine with quality, name-brand parts instead of that OEM crap Dell uses. 3) Install Win2k without all the crap the OEM's like to put on there), and sp/2 4) At that point, you can start at the desktop image and continue on. ------- signature starts "...the staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - Jason Jystad, 10/26/2001 Please review the Legal Disclaimer in my bio. ------- signature ends
