Actually the word he used was "Shoah", which is hebrew for catastrophe, or destruction. It is usually (but not exclusively) used to refer to the murder of jews by the nazis during World War 2. Spin Spin Spin.

Although I agree that this is the usual Guardian spin, it is a shame that the Israelis seem willing to let Hamas dictate the direction of events. Hamas wants nothing more than exactly what the deputy defense minister threatens - a war that would draw in all the Arab neighbors suits Hamas just fine.

The BBC article upon which the Guardian based its story has already been updated to say: Matan Vilnai said Palestinians risked a "shoah", the Hebrew word for a big disaster - and for the Nazi Holocaust Also pertinent: http://exmypar.wordpress.com/2008/02/29/shoah-mistranslated-as-holocaust/

I certainly didn't intend that that be in THAT post. Must have been a bit of CPHOG weirdness, repeating a quote from my previous reply to Oakman ion a different thread...

CPhog strangeness - if you have *any* text selected when you click on 'reply', it assumes it came from the post you're replying to and puts it in as a quote.
