I suppose it's similar to how most guys hate Britney Spears but would sleep with her if they got a chance to.

When white people can say they are proud to be "white" (not necessarity hating another group--just saying they have pride) and not have the rest of the world up in arms. You can be proud to be Irish, or British, or American. You can be proud to be Asian or Italian. You just can't be proud to be white.

huh? I asked when can we stop calling someone a Native American (or African American or Irish American or Asian American or [Name any ethnicity] American) and start just calling them American? 75%? 50%? 25%? 1%? What does that have to do with being proud of ones race?

Yeah, yeah. You really have all the cliches memorised don't you? What's next, kiwibird - "So's your old man?" Go take a bath, you still smell of ewe-shit. Christ, why am I wasting my time on someone who lives in Australia's vermiform appendix? I have better things to do - like sort socks and clean the litter box.

I've been following it via Cricinfo and watching highlights on Youtube. I wish Lee, Ponting and others could have stayed till the finals.

I've seen little bits here and there including Gillies big ton but its hard to get interested when I dont have "my team" to follow. Any idea if Warnies team are still in?

Even granting that it is indeed true that "the whole world hates America," why would you even imagine that we care? The very premises for the (constant) assertions that "the whole world hates America" ought *also* to tell you people that we simply don't give a damn about what foreigners think. Sheesh!

Well, I wasn't mad at the guy - I cracked a joke and a lot of people became offended - even Hamed (once realizing I was playing with him) came down off the ledge. It surprises me that so many people (I'm taking about the regulars here) are still surprised and offended by anything I say. They know I insult as many people as I can in a given instance and whenever I see an opening, and they're equally aware that I don't mean anything by it. It's a little harmless fun at the expense of someone else. If someone wants to spar, they're more than welcome to step into the circle with me. This is really a lot of hullabaloo over nothing.

You should know by now how hostile the Lounge is. Despite the stupidity here, I find the Soapbox much more relaxing. I feel "imprisoned" in the Lounge - like I have to watch my every step. By the way, you've got quite the fan club. I've never had so many greyed out posts. You dragged over all the regular Lounge lizards and their itchy '1 vote' fingers.

I've gotta be - I did my time in academia. You don't survive if you're not. It's partly the reason I moved out of the Ivory Towers and into the Private Sector - I got tired of grown adults acting like kids. Mind you it's not that different now, but at least it's not a continuous battle. To fill the void, I come here! :-\
