Hello, I posted this question to operation system forum but I got no answers. I felt maybe I have posted it in a wrong forum so I post the question here and I hope someone knows about it. I have an instrument that is connected to computer via USB(with FT232R USB chip and its supplied drivers). I want when I plug in the device an icon is displayed in system tray. I don't want any specific function like a menu or blinking or anything else. Just when I plug the device an icon to be displayed and when I unplug it the icon goes away. At most I want a tip when I move mouse over it. how can I do this? I feel that I have to manipulate .inf files but I don't know how. Any help is welcomed. thanks.

That would mean changing the driver I believe.

No, thats wrong. Drivers cant touch the GUI. They cant add things to the screen, or anything else.

Why do you want this? Because its funky? Because you think its cool? Its not. Its crap. If you HAVENT got a menu, or somehting usefull to do, dont clutter up the pannel with useless Icons whose sole purpose is to massage the ego of the creator. Anyway, you cant do it from a driver, or from an inf file. It can only be done from user mode, drivers cant touch the UI.
