It seems that we denizens of The Soapbox have drawn the ire of some of the Lounge Lizards[^]. Obviously, they spend time here but then run back there and act superior while criticizing us. Personally, I don't spend much time in the Lounge since it seems superfluous and short on any sense of humor. And what's with the kid sister safe rule for posting, as if kid sisters are some golden creatures with heightened sensibilities?

I agree with you there.  My interpretation of the kid sister rule is based on what was OK for my kid sister1 when we were young. 1 OK, younger sister, but when we were kids.

Funny that it was initiated by norm.net. He was one of the big trash talkers going back and forth with heinz that led to Chris M's intervention. We really need an irony smiley.

Shit, I'm single and this applies more than anything, I have to seriously wonder how it must be when married.  I just paid my last +- USD 1.8k on the last of two credit cards that were seriously in arrears, that I had to pay off over two years.  In total, including extortionary 'collection commission', interest, and principle, I probably paid about USD 17k over the two years.

Anyone wanting my sympathy need not ask.

The lounge is laughable, say anything that remotely offends the favorite members like Christian Graus, leckey, or Pete O'Hanlon and instantly get attacked and one voted, but attacks on people like "The Developer" are applauded and 5 voted. Most of the people who frequent the lounge seem like brown nosers.

I don't get this voting thang, why does anyone care? It doesn't increase my pay, It doesn't decrease it either. No reprocussions really... You don't win a prize if you get 5's.

I don't really, it's just an interesting example of groupthink in the lounge.

You make an interesting point. I had wanted to write a longer reply, but found myself fascinated by my belly-button and wasted all the time i might have otherwise spent here in quiet contemplation of that odd little part of my anatomy. So instead, i wish you good luck in your quest for answers and bid you good day! :-\

When I asked my wife to marry me she said "Yes, but first you have to pay off your loan for your Jeep and credit cards." Since then she and I have lived credit card and auto-loan debt free since 1999. It's really powerful to not have to pay for the car or a credit card at the beginning of the month.

I've seen marriages fold over credit card debt. A friend /neighbor of mine saw the writing on the wall and took on two extra contracts and paid off ~$30K in credit card debt in about two years. It seemed like he never slept during that period and I was concerned about his health. Now, he and his wife are credit card debt free and giddy about it.

Sure, and when you think about how you could have put that money to work for you rather than the credit company it's even more annoying.

To be honest - I'm not sure why the SoapBox got attacked the other day. I stayed well away from it, and (to be honest) I rather enjoyed our little spats - but it's a shame you feel you were under attack. Oh well.

Now I don't spend much time here in the Soap Box, but I wasn't impressed by the attack on it. I think the Soap Box has a large part to play in Code Project - it's just a little too American Politics for my taste; however I don't think it deserved the attack - so fair play to it, and I'll hope over onto that thread now and put a defence in - not that you'll care one way or the other.

It was working for me; teaching me how to live without it.  Until this experience, I used to live by seeing how much I could get out of my money.  Now I live by what I can keep of my money.

I never felt that way, those were all in good fun, I guess I should have worded that post better. I was referring more to people who seem to be shunned from the lounge after insults to regulars when they have received more insults, i.e. Julia4u/"The Developer". Seems like the lounge is much more cliquish and uptight compared to the soapbox.

Like most groups we spend more time talking about ourselves and our 'group' than we do anything else.

Funny that it was initiated by norm.net. He was one of the big trash talkers going back and forth with heinz that led to Chris M's intervention. We really need an irony smiley.

I can think of a lot of smileys we need in the SB. ;)

I don't get this voting thang, why does anyone care? It doesn't increase my pay, It doesn't decrease it either. No reprocussions really... You don't win a prize if you get 5's.

It's just a way of knowing someone actually read your post and agrees or disagrees. I treat 1 votes here the same as 5 votes. I reached out and pissed someone off.

You make an interesting point. I had wanted to write a longer reply, but found myself fascinated by my belly-button and wasted all the time i might have otherwise spent here in quiet contemplation of that odd little part of my anatomy. So instead, i wish you good luck in your quest for answers and bid you good day! :-\
