This forum used to be so much fun before 9-11. The forum members used spend hours trashing Americans, and then us yanks would defned our selves...then we would make fun of other things. Now all we ever talk about is those damn pesky zealots. Can we make fun of the Chinese or something more interetsing than a bunch of loser, suicidel idiots? C'mon, people, they're an easy target that even a moron could redicule. It is a major disappointment to watch the level of discourse drop to that of an AOL chat room on Friday night. Snap out of it you 'tards!

This forum did not even exist before 9-11. In fact, I take credit for its very existence when Chris was forced to remove several of us from the lounge following 9-11.

Chaining ourselves to the moral high ground does not make us good guys. Aside from making us easy targets, it merely makes us idiotic prisoners of our own self loathing.

Seriously? I remember it prior to that event, but I could be mistaken. Never the less, my assertion about the lower quality here stands.

He meant Sept. 9th of last year. You know, when Fred_Smith posted about Hans Ruesch - it totally upset the balance of forum topics. :-\

Yeah. Quite a long time, in fact. And there's no reason he couldn't have spent time on the site under a different user ID. However, it is somewhat late to be complaining about the tone of The Soapbox - it's been this way periodically from almost the start, with certain persistent personalities using it as their private ranting ground - and others using them as public punching bags - even when it was known as Rants and Raves. IMHO, complaining about the topics doesn't really do any good unless you're willing to bring up better ones yourself. Navel gazing isn't any less disturbing when the navel looks back at you...

Yes, for as long as I can remember. I've been around here longer than the 4 years and 4 months that my profile says. I'll admit that before February '04, I lurked and had an old account that I lost the login info to.

Conversely, i paid little attention to the non-programming forums for a good while after joining up, so i can't really even comment accurately on the general mood here in the late-September timeframe my profile might suggest.

Same here in the beginning, but now I am mostly Lounge/Soapbox due to the tiredness of idiot/nobrainer questions in the programming forums. The VB one has just been downright bad as usual.
