VB6 Subversion client
-
Hi, I'm in the process of moving our team from VSS to Subversion and I've just realised that we have a few projects sitting around that use VB6 and still need to be maintained. Does anyone know of a decent IDE Plugin for VB6 that will work with SVN? I've got Ankh / Tortoise running fine but would like to get VB6 hooked up as well. Thanks, Russell

Since Tortise is a windows explorer add on, i don't see why that wouldn't meet your VB6 requirement. i realize you're just getting started with SVN, but how is Ankh treating you? I used it many moons ago and found it to be quite problematic in terms of adding/removing files and a handful of other issues.

So far I've just run a conversion on a couple of projects from VSS to check that we can convert easily and setup a couple of machines to connect to them check in etc. I've found Ankh ok so far this time round, it's certainly come along since i dabbled with it once before. I've been using tortoise and svn at home for a few years now and found that to be a pretty good solution although with only 1 dev and not many checkins it's not exactly a punishing test. I think the devs here want to have SVN integrated into the IDE rather than having to go out to their desktops

what you're describing is exactly what i went through 2 years ago. We were using VSS at work, hated it, and wanted something new. I was using SVN at home, but had never used it outside of my single developer scenario. When we first moved over to SVN the team wanted to keep their VS integrated src control stuff. So we went with Ankh. It worked, but caused some headaches. Fortunately the team saw value in SVN, so there was no going back to VSS. But that lead us to the conversation of, what else is out there for a SVN client. Tortise was suggested, a couple tried it out, then the whole team moved over. Sorry for drifting slightly off topic here... I don't know of any SVN clients that integrate with the VB6 IDE. Maybe it's time to convert those apps to .net ;P

Don't even think about mentioning such a thing. In fact, don't even think about thinking about mentioning it. Russ :((
