Every assertion of the quote is either blatantly false or misleading "spin" (and thus, also false).

So what you're saying is that it's not not true.

45 million is misleading at best, since it appears it does not discount those covered by federal and State programs. It also makes no allowance for those who chose not to afford health insurance. The minimum wage was raised in 2007 and again this year. The author might be living under a rock ...

Actually, it does. The 45 million estimate is of people without any health insurance. In 2006, only 201.7 million had private insurance, which would give a figure of around 100 million without private insurance. See here for details. http://www.census.gov/prod/2007pubs/p60-233.pdf[^]

Exactly. And they don't need to 'afford health care'. All they have to do is clog up the nearest ER for free health care. And I'm betting that excluding them would put a huge dent in that 45 million. [edit] Ah, somebody didn't like my post. It was more of a complaint of the way things are, not a suggestion to keep it that way. You want to reform health care? Start with immigration reform. And by reform, what I really mean is enforce the laws that are already in place, build the wall, and stop giving free-bees away as a huge incentive to bring a zillion more illegals. I don't know how it is in your towns, but the last two times I was at an emergency room, I had no less than an 8 hour wait. One of those visits, with a broken hand, after waiting 8 hours I left, was told I'd be charged for the visit just for signing in, and had to go back the next morning to actually get X-Rayed and taken care of. Because here, illegals don't get charged a dime in the ER. So they go to the ER if they get a cold. They also get free prenatal care, free formula, and they even get a free car seat when they leave the hosital with their brand new drain on the tax payer. How much do you suppose that costs the hospitals and ultimately the tax payer? In this region, Mexicans are almost a majority, and a significant number are illegals. And there are plenty of technically legal Mexicans that claim to be illegal in the ER. When it comes to the number of insured, I don't know what the best solution is, but I'm absolutely positive it has nothing to do with more government intervention. And I'd like to see a quantification of "can't afford." I'd be interested to know what percentage of those who "can't afford" insurance "can afford" DVDs, SUVs and satellite dishes. I can't afford a lot of things, but insurance I know I have to afford. And sure, there are some people that truley can't afford insurance. And they do need help of some kind. But I have my doubts that there are 45 million of them who truley can't afford insurance. [/edit]

300M Americans. ~3 kids/family = ~60M families. $700B/60M = ~$11,000/family. <Kramer>Why don't we just give them the money?</Kramer> Then they can pay their bills or buy stuff and stimulate the economy. We can start with me and see if it helps.

Perhaps the declaration of independence wasn't such a good move in the long run?

I think I get it. If 99% of America has 500Billion dollars and the upper 1% has 10Trillion dollars the value of the dollar is about the same as if 99% of America has 500Billion dollars and the upper 1% has 20 Trillion dollars. I think the plan is that as long the masses never get a hold of all the fake currency the Federal Reserve and Government can just keep printing more and more money to pay for Wall Street and Wars. But if the money got spread around, there would be so many dollars everywhere that the currency would be worthless. Nothing backs the dollar, they just print it from nothing. As long as 99% of the money is inaccessible to the masses. They can just keep the printing presses rolling... Just a guess though, I have no clue...

Well, after the first to 1 votes I re-read the original one sentence post and found it possibly horibbly misleading. However, I'm convinced you have to get a couple 1s completely regardless of content anyway.

I was thinking about plagiarizing sections of your post and then pointing out that the money couldn't be found to do even what was promised in terms of border security, let alone the amount that would be needed to provide for guarding our borders properly - but let Wall Street scream and watch how fast the money appears. I think everyone focused on the lamentable lack of up-to-date knowledge of the the guy from the UK about when the minimum wage was raised or exactly how many people are without health care of any form, and ended up ignoring his basic point - when the guys who make 10 million or more a year need some extra spending money, it appears. It may take ten votes in each house but it will appear.
