Bah, as long as the American government refuses to join such a sham regulatory body, there's nothing Europe can do about it. Europe needs the U.S. more than the U.S. needs Europe.

Historically, sudden political revolution always follows gradual economic evolution. We are now at one of those historic cusps where the existing political models are increasingly insufficient to control economic realities. Ther is actually very little any one can do about it. We either change politically to accomodate the economy, or the economy collapses entirely.
Chaining ourselves to the moral high ground does not make us good guys. Aside from making us easy targets, it merely makes us idiotic prisoners of our own self loathing.

Better dead than Red. But honestly, this bullshit is seriously frightening: Sarkozy on Monday repeated his call for a meeting of world leaders "to set the foundations for a new international financial system." What that new system might look like according to the French president was outlined in a speech he gave last Friday in Toulon. "The idea of an all-powerful market which must not be constrained by any rules, by any political intervention, was mad," he said. "The idea that markets were always right was mad." He also said that self-regulation and laissez-faire capitalism "were finished." WTF is that supposed to imply? The solution to this French bullshit is to just not sign the dotted line.

But it sounds so good. And it would appear that many of the French are socialist sheep, looking for a shepherd.

That's what I was thinking... Abandon my genius idea of opening a taco stand in Japan and just be a rice farmer.

I'm betting you don't mean, elect McCain and we'll be OK

Hardly. In fact, I think an Obama presidency will ultimately be more conudcive to my preferences than McCain would be.

The Mice held a meeting while the Cat had a stomachache and voted to bell the Cat so they'd know when he was around. Then the Mice tried to figure out how to bell the Cat and who would do it. Monsieur Sarkocheesy was nominated but declined due to an unfortunately scheduled prior meeting where he planned to demand in the strongest possible terms that the Russian Rats stop eating all of Georgia's cheese.

It is not the french who recently decided to nationalize some of their banks. And for the moment, the french tax payers are not asked to pay a huge amount of money to save their "socialist" banking system.

Yeah, but it's the French, communist head of the IMF calling for global oversight (i.e. socialist) planning of the global economy. Along with Sarkozy, too. As for the French taxpayers not being asked about a bail-out, you should check what Christine Lagarde, France's finance minister, has to say about that. I think you'll find she has a different opinion than you.
