Has anyone else noticed that when you take a screenshot of a video playing in windows media then save it as jpeg in Paint the actual video disapears from the screenshot but everything else is left? Can someone explain why this happens?

The video appears as black in the screenshot, right? I was reading about video cards one day and I came across something about this. I didn't fully understand, but I think the video is overlayed on the image on the video card before the signal is sent to the monitor -- so Windows does not actually know what the contents of the video are. This is rather annoying because I can't watch a video on my secondary monitor -- it's just black. _____________________ "They'd dearly make us pay For laughing in their faces And making it our way" -Love My Way, Psychedelic Furs

Actually I think it's more due to DirectX being used. If you can find an AVI player that doesn't use the WMP control or DirectX, you should be able to take screen shots. --Mike-- Just released - RightClick-Encrypt v1.3 - Adds fast & easy file encryption to Explorer My really out-of-date homepage Sonork-100.19012 Acid_Helm

I have been using dual monitors for years and I rember that being a problem with Windows 9x, but now that I am using Windows XP the problem is gone. I was also unable to play DVD's on the secondary monitor unless I was in clone mode! Anyway screen shots and playback on a secondary monitor or TV works fine now. BTW I have Geforce 4 TI 4400 with dual montior + tv out with Windows XP, plus a Gefore2MX PCI with dual monitor + tv out. Before that I was using an integrated ATI rage Lt with a Vodoo 3 2000 (PCI) with Windows ME. Could be the OS, version of Direct X, graphics card or drivers. All I know is everything works fine now.

It isn't really there. What to see something funky? Move the screenshot around, notice anything? :-D What happens is the place where the video should show is drawn in a particular color, then this color is replaced by the overlay before it is shown on screen.
