I recently decided to allow myself to be assimilated by Vista. One of the interesting features I found was the sidebar gadgets. I downloaded and installed a few of them, and then went off looking for the SDK. It appears to me that the SDK is no longer distributed, and the only information on MSDN seems pretty sketchy. What's the deal on this? Has MS discontued the Gadgets SDK?

Have you taken a look at the Sidebar Gadgets Documentation? Regards, --Perspx

Yeah, that's the "sketchy documentation" I was referring to. If you go to the "Gadget Samples" topic, it says that you can download either a standalone Gadgets SDK, which I cannot find, and that it's also in the Windows SDK. I installed the Windows SDK and the folder they referred to in the topic doesn't exist. That's why I'm wondering if they've pulled the SDK :( [edit] OTOH, I didn't stop to think that I can just unzip any of the thousands of gadgets already available and see how they work  [/edit]

Ah, I see. If they have, my guess is that they're pushing towards the new Windows 7 gadgets which I've heard about.. Or they just have crap documentation which is also a possibility as seen with the new Vista help, for which I believe that documentation still hasn't been released. Regards, --Perspx

AFAIK, the Win 7 gadgets work just like on Vista, it's just the sidebar that's gone. (Gadgets are floating windows all the time now.)

I have a gadget article here at CP that might be helpful: clickety[^] But it's been so long since I wrote it that I forget if I used a separate gadget SDK or not.
